Good Morning!

The sky last night...

Good news this morning... the storm has weakened to the point that it looks to be a garden variety normal hurricane!  We'll still be without power for probably a considerable amount of time, since that's the norm, but it sounds like we don't have to worry about things like the actual entire roof flying off this time, great news for us and great news for those in the Northeast.  No cool videos to offer of shingles flying by yet, so still waiting...

Video for you bird lovers...

We have approx 8000 people in our city without power already, just from the relatively light winds so far, so I expect it won't be much longer for us.

Update:  Mama Dove appears to be in the dog crate!  It's not ideal, but it's better than just sitting outside during a 15 inch rainfall!

  1. Things do sound much better then what they were predicting yesterday. I think that all the rain from this massive storm is going to create a lot of flooding though.

Great idea for the bird! Stay safe and in touch!

  2. YAY!! That is ingenuity at work Erin.

So happy Irene is losing her stuff so to speak. I would very much like you to keep your roof and all other things intact.

I think I scrambled around for nothing, but we, like you, could be without power for a couple of days. Luckily the nasty storm surge won't affect us personally. Things are looking up. :)

I will keep checking in on you, stay safe!

  3. It almost seems as if Mama Dove knows you're trying to help her! You've moved her nest a couple of times now, but she just says, "Oh, I'm over here now," and gets back to her incubating duties. You've done all you can for her. I agree bringing her into the house wouldn't be a good idea. Does she have a little sump pump in the dog kennel?

P.S. Word Verification is TRIALING. This whole thing certainly is trialing for all of you!

  4. Update, this one's a gem! There are 2 people on a vessel offshore here LOl...the Coast Guard is using old school techniques from the 19th century like zip lines to rescue them. I'm not the least bit sorry for laughing at them, either, what morons! They have no communications onboard so we don't know yet what their story is or where they are from. I hope they aren't locals since they will never live this one down! I wonder what they are thinking out there watching the Coast Guard arrive, now there is a small crowd gathering and an ambulance arriving LOL... What WERE they thinking? "it's a good day for a sail, honey...."! If you are interested, check out WAVY10 news website, they probably are streaming the rescue LOL...

  5. OMG you have to try and log in to WAVY.com and check out a video of our local reporter Andy Fox doing ridiculous stuff in Nags Head if they have posted one... they picked the right guy for this, he's an animal and he's pretty funny!

    New update -
‎3 roofs completely gone on Sandbridge Rd... we are taking power hits now so I'm shutting down... see ya on the backside y'all!
