Public Notice:

Attention!  Due to budget cuts the Gates of Hell are officially closed, the fire and brimstone have been relocated topside.  Drink lots of water.

Oh, please, please come our way, thunderstorm clouds!  Not like an Apple Pie kind of storm, but maybe a just the regular kind?  Do you do those anymore?

It's much too hot for anything, but guilt set in and hubby and I went to the school to help Loch's class tie-dye some t-shirts for their school-wide field day next week.  Holy cows it was hot.  At first we set up in the shade under the trees next to the woods.  After picking off about 15 ticks from screaming little girls' legs we moved them out into the hot sun.

Notice these poor kids are wearing garbage bags in the heat!

We tried to work quickly...

In the end I think there will be some great shirts to show for our haphazard/ slap dye everywhere fast and run back inside efforts!

I got home and was trying to finish up sewing hubby's shirt and a tick dropped right onto my sewing machine, eeeeeek!  Needless to say I RAN for the shower and now I can't stop itching!  It's not over, either... we have to take Loch to a birthday party back over there near the woods this evening, I'm a'scared!

  1. I almost hate to ask . . . but what WAS the temperature while you were out there doing such a good deed and broiling? (I possibly could have survived the heat but the ticks would have done me in!)

Hoping you get rain and the birthday party will be moved indoors?

  2. Wish I could send you some of our Seattle rain. In exchange for SOME of your sun.

  3. LMAO! Gates closed, that's a good one! Gosh I remember making tie dye shirts when we were kids. They are the coolest things ever! So glad you guys did that with the boys. I can do without the ticks too. Nothing like those nasty critters to send anyone racing for the shower! Hope you get that rain girl!!! I think we need a meeting of the Divine Sisterhood to make it happen.

  4. Mama Pea, can't believe I'm saying this but "not too bad" at 96 degrees LOL. The humidity came down a little today. Ticks are so stinkin' gross, and they are really bad here. Loch came home on the bus and gave me a letter from the teacher that they had found lots of rogue ticks in the class after the adventure so we had to do another check, yuck. He was also spouting wisdom about nimbus clouds and other random meteorological facts about rain coming... where did this kid come from?

    Vintage Green, I'll take it!

APG, we definitely need some homemade wine and a little "back to nature" gathering in your garden to make things happen!

  5. Eek is right! I would recommend tucking your pant legs into your socks, but you would fry! Is there no relief in sight? I am with APG - we need Divine Sisterhood intervention!

  6. Susan, no pants! I was in shorts and flip flops so I can see them LOL, I find that pants just makes them attach further up towards my head!

  8. Ewwwwww about the ticks. We have deer ticks here too but not so much in the residential areas. Between ticks and mosquitoes spring can be a dangerous time. Now I'm itching too just thinking about ticks!!
And 96 is wayyyyyy too hot.
Glad you were able to help the kids with their shirts. I bet they'll look fantastic.

  9. We are not equipped to handle 90s this early in the year, if ever. Definitely not a few days in the same week. Then - overnight - we dropped to the 50s with a high of 62 and chill breeze. There must be a novice on the world thermostat.

  10. No rain here for 3 weeks either. The funny part is I monitor the radar on my Iphone and it shows that I should be getting rain, but none ever falls. Even the Weather Channel is against me! If I ever had a tick on me I think I would have a massive stroke. Ugh!

  11. LOL! Erin, you're too funny. I have to laugh at the kids. The last think I want to do on a hot day is put on a plastic bag. You might as well have them catch hot water balloons.

  12. My littlest daughter found a tick on her this morning. We don't have too many here (though a number of years ago I would have said we don't have any here). She saw it and bagan to jump and scream so I almost couldn't get it off. She was screaming "Icky! Icky! Get it OFF! Get it OFF! GET IT OFF!!! Flush it down the toilet!!!" I was on the phone with my sister at the time. She thought something terrible had happened. Well...I guess it had. They are gross. Hope the party was great and no ticks in sight!

  13. I HATE TICKS!!! We had a rash of them two years ago, but so far, so good for this year - knock on wood.

  14. I'd rather have high temps than ticks any day.

  15. LOL about the ticks. We have so many here since we live right next to the woods, they don't even faze us anymore. But, that's MN for ya.

Your heat is insane. And what is with the weather guessers? I think dogsMom is right...there must be a novice on the world's thermostat. Someone get him some training!

  16. Sparkless, they are so gross!

Hi Dogsmom! A "chill breeze" sounds divine right now!
    ***
Jane, you too? I don't know why but I was thinking you got some of those nice rainstorms the other day... it's going to be a tough year...
    ***
Thomas, we were already out in the field for about 30 mins mixing up the stuff in buckets for the shirts, my mouth went agape when I saw all those kids marching out of the school with plastic bags on LOL
    ***
Patty, there is something about ticks, blech! Enough to make even the "big girls" scream!
    ***
Ribbit, I wish we would have cycles like that. It's only bad in a specific area, unfortunately that includes the school and several of the area parks. One year we got a load of wood mulch and it was FULL of ticks.
    ***
Dani, is it horrible hot there too? I don't know how you deal with it!

Mama Tea, aren't there a bunch of meteorologists walking around that need jobs? They probably hired all the ones with online degrees instead so they'll work for cheaper LOL - no offense to online degree holders, I've taken online courses myself, but jeez, let's get the M.I.T. guys in there this year, it's needed!

  17. Ticks-OMG they are coming out of the woodwork this year-the baby [ 4 months] had one crawling up his arm.I don't envy your heat at all,but I must admit I would love a view of the ocean again-so when are you going to the ocean and post more heavy waves.

  18. Tye dye shirts. How fun! It was hot here for a few days, but finally the rain rolled in and cooled things down. Thank goodness. Ticks scare me too!!
