I did it!

See the little bit of yarn left over? I call these "LUCKY Socks!"

The Japanese cable pattern was fun to work, the only issue is that these were supposed to fit my mom! I think she's an 8 or 9, and I'm only about a size 5 1/2, and they fit Loch too! I guess I'm a very tight knitter so I'll use bigger needles next time. Don't worry mom, you will get some cozy socks if it takes me from here to Christmas to get it right!

Now I may start a hat... I have never made a hat or anything in the round. Apparently I'm working backwards, most people start with those before attempting socks! I'm afraid of circular needles so I'll try with dp needles! There's always something to be afraid of...

  1. Wow! Those are awesome! Now I want to knit some socks just as soon as I finish this stupid hat I'm working on.

Those socks are really really cute! I have never attempted cables either. But for a pair of those, OH HECK...who am I kidding!

  6. I decided to learn to knit year so I signed up for a class to make a hat . . . on circular needles. I was afraid of using them but they were so easy to work with.

  7. Those are beautiful socks! Your stitches look perfect! I love to crochet but really don't like to knit all that much. Great job!!

  9. Good gawd, Girl! Those are GORGEOUS!

It sure seems we all are different and have our own little quirks and preferences. I LOVE circular needles and still feel like a total klutz working with double pointed ones. (This is after 47 years of knitting.) I know people who take the time and effort to convert all sweater patterns to "in the round" so they don't have to sew seams! Bottom line, we all should do what works best for us.

Once again, bee-yew-tiful work on those socks!

  10. Absolutely gorgeeeous~! I cannot imagine having those be my second-only ones I knit. I skirted socks for years before my mom sat me down and made me finish one. I knit mine now with two circulars. I'm with Mama Pea - I'm all thumbs with the dps. Nice job.

  11. Thank you all for the sweet compliments, I AM excited about them, I can't help it! I will tackle my fear of circular needles soon I hope, I can't really knit sweaters or anything until I do!

But why, oh why, can't I operate my sewing machine? LOL

  15. Fabulous socks!!! Love the color, love the design. I'm not afraid of dpns or circular needles anymore but I am terrified of cables! :) And I would have been a basket case if I only had that much yarn left over. ;) And your ghouls are adorable.

  16. Nice socks! How long is a pair taking you and what gauge are they?

  17. Anke & Judy D, HI! Thank you!
Stefaneener, this particular pair took about a week working 2-3 hours a day, I'm hoping it will go quicker next time! Gauge? LOL....
