A NEW LOOK!

I am excited to say I have finally freshened up the blog with a new look.  I've been meaning to do this for the past 4 months or so but other things always managed to take a priority.  Gone are the unseasonable but welcome temps of 80ยบ, replaced with wind, cold and rain - made for a blog updating kind of day yesterday.

That header photo is huge, I can't seem to shrink it down so I'll just have to live with it for awhile.  For anyone wondering, those sunflowers are "Autumn Beauty", they grew to be about 6 feet and have multiple flowers per stalk and indeed were Autumn Beauties, as this photo was taken in October.

I have changed a few things around on the sidebar, and hopefully will have more links of interest in the upcoming months.  Some of you may know that I am somewhat of a closet "prepper" and so I have decided to link one of the neatest prepper sites I know of, as the author is a woman!  Her radio show is linked as well as her website under the "Prepper Blogs" on the sidebar.  The Survival Mom is a very cool site - her blog, numerous links, forums, information in an easy to navigate page.  Food storage and outdoor survival are big interests of mine that you may not know about, but her page is full of common sense stuff that applies to the home as well such as pantries, storm prep and finances.  She also has a book coming out next week that I just pre-ordered and I hope to give it a review after I read it.
*Note, in no way am I doing ads or anything on my blog, I just hope to share yet another interest of mine and link helpful info for anyone else out there interested.  This girl does not live by gardening alone :)

Please let me know if there are any comment box issues I have - I know a lot of us are dealing with this but I had no option pop up to disable the word jumble so I'm wondering how the box appears to you, and if you are seeing the 'subscribe to email' button?  I have noticed on many other blogs I no longer have the option of 'subscribing to comments' which makes it frustrating when I want to see what others are saying or your replies on your blogs.  Blogger growing pains, ugh!

I am hoping to get that seed/varieties post up soon, but now I'm off to work on Cub Scout stuff...

    2. Don't mean to piggy-back on your conversation with Mama Pea but since I still can't see your comment box (it's me, not you) this is the only way I can say, WOW -- this looks GREAT! I love the sunflowers (I'm a sunflower gal too) and the colour scheme and everything. Nicely done.
P.S. I can see the subscribe by email button.

  4. I don't like the new banner much. Of course, I'm now using it as my desktop wallpaper.....LOL.....thank you! Those are gorgeous! I'm afraid of sunflowers (and cosmos) since mine all grew 10-12 feet tall last year. The new page design looks great.

  6. Oh, and if you want to get rid of the verification word you have to switch back to the old interface temporarily. The disable option doesn't exist in the new interface... curious, huh..

  10. It is funny, I almost did a post on emergency preparedness this morning- I lectured my FB friends instead. But I may still do it- these horrific weather happenings are a good reminder to have plan and kit in place. I am SO checking out that link, but I like to think we are in good shape God forbid something really goes wrong.

  12. Your new look is fabulous!
I've been having internet issues which means I can't get online for the last two mornings and then the kids are on the computers so my computer time is almost nil until late at night now.

    1. Sparkless, boo... I hate internet problems, I know from experience that with having kids underfoot and being at home a lot sometimes the computer is such a welcome escape - hope your issues are resolved soon!

  13. Erin, Love the new look.

I downsized your sunflower photo see if you can get to it with this link... https://picasaweb.google.com/110274191524090898228/Public

If you get to it let me know if you need it bigger or smaller.

    1. Liisa, thank you! I tried it but it was smaller width-wise, I had already tried that one out. I was trying to make it more narrow/band like if that makes sense, so when the blog first comes up the reader can actually see a bit of the post itself without scrolling. My editing is just turning into a pixelated mess when I do it LOL! It's not a huge deal, but you are awesome for helping out!

  14. You're welcome :-) OK I did one more. I made it more narrow but you lose a bit of the aspect ratio so it is a little distorted. Use the same link as above.

  15. I love your sunflowers... I already started seed in the greenhouse. And thanks for the info on prepping. I do some, but I realized not enough when I ran out of sugar this weekend. Anyhow, the blog looks great!

    1. Ruth, we all could use work or reminders on prepping! One doesn't have to be over the top about it, but good common sense goes a long way! I am sure that's one thing the economy has taught us all!
