I wasted over an hour this morning trying to decide what to do today. On one hand, seeds are IN, they need to be started. On the other hand, it's 73ยบ outside and I'm dying to get out there and get started on the spring cleanup!
What I should have been doing...
What I decided to do instead...
The seeds are all in!
I'm gonna need a bigger boat! I think the binder has reached its limit.
Definitely no show stopping garden photos here, look at this mess! Above, I have about 15 stands of this fountain grass that needs to be cut down, as the new stuff is already growing at the base! Below, you think I might be slacking in pruning my mums??? The base is already a couple inches of new green foliage! Blech...

After spending some time gathering all my supplies and cutting old miniblind slats for this year's labels, I was ready to get started. I ended up with 3 flats. Every year I do a spectacular job of "forgetting" that those little flats of 72 plants each morph into larger pots :) Yeah- don't you laugh, you know EXACTLY what I'm talking about! I'll do a separate post soon detailing what was started and what will be new for us this year.
The only part of the garden outside that's not a mess...
Lettuce!
I desperately need more though, this is it right now. I am waiting on a nice day where hubby is off work so we can go get a couple of trailer loads of amendments for the beds. Not only do they need topping off, but they need some good compost this year as well. Can't plant my peas either until this happens, so we may have a very busy weekend if it doesn't rain!
If it does rain this weekend, I promise I am going to update my blog look! I see my header still states that I am cleaning up fall canning supplies, and looking forward to ALL THAT QUILTING I was going to do!
Now on to the really important stuff... who can tell me where to get the special goggles I obviously am supposed to be wearing as I attempt to comment on your blogs and make it through the "word verification" battle? Holy cows what is THAT all about?!!!
That new word verification is a "B".....I'm about to give up on some very good blogs just because my eyes cannot make out those scribbles. By the third attempt, I'm P.O'd and just give up. What a shame they had to mess up a good thing.
ReplyDeleteI thought I wasn't a robot, but with this new word verification I'm sure I'm proving otherwise LOL
DeleteWow it looks like spring. That binder needs decluttering but then I guess planting the seeds will do that and it will flatten out.
ReplyDeleteCan't wait to see the new blog look. I really need to learn how to change up my blog other than just using the templates. I'm hoping my son can teach me now that he's taking a class in school.
The binder actually doesn't have anything that can be cleaned out, it's all good stuff, but you're right about the planting - the middle has all my peas and beans in it and will hopefully flatten out a good deal once they go in!
DeleteSo what all did you get started? Some of my seedlings already came up (tomatoes mainly) and should probably be re-potted soon. That's when my mess will get bigger... ;-) I also need to get some compost or manure and top-dress all the beds, but that will probably have to wait another week.
ReplyDeleteAll in good time, LOL! I will plan a post detailing all the varieties for the garden this year, as well as some stuff that's new for me. I wanted to post today, but I had to scoot off to music lessons with the kids, but at least I did keep track on a notepad of what went in today :)
DeleteIt's been really warm here the past few days also, 77 right now! Definitely NOT usual, but wonderful to be able to work outside. But having the same problem you are having; barn work, goat work, rake leaves or plant seeds!! Well, I guess it would help if I weren't on the computer, hugh?
ReplyDeleteIt's supposed to be 77 here too tomorrow, but 30 mph winds so I definitely won't be burning all that dead stuff outside LOL
DeleteI am kinda still waiting for that last huge snow storm. That is my excuse for not doing any outside work ;)
ReplyDeleteJane I think you are smart to wait, just 2 days ago we had a really thick, heavy frost - our first actually this year. We had snow once but it wasn't precipitated by any hard frost so my plants did ok through that. Mother Nature is just waiting to play a big joke on us so I'm waiting til my normal time for peas, another week or 2!
DeleteFor a min, there I got goose bumps, when you said "hey you ,don't you laugh" I thought you sounded like APG,just for a min. where is that woman anywho?well,if your cuttung down all that beautiful deco grass....I love that stuff. The has adopted it as there new inbetweens [ like in between lanes to beautify the city so to speak.I keep telling myself I'm gonna walk out there in the middle of the night and snatch me a few handfuls-lol
ReplyDeleteJudy, I know! I posted on her last entry a few days ago, hopefully she will check in soon, we sure miss her!
ReplyDeleteBlogger is acting very odd today.
ReplyDeleteI did away with my word verification. It's causing me difficulty and so much extra time to try to figure out the CAPTCHA jumble, I'm not making my readers fight it. I don't know why they had to do away with the old word verification, it seemed to work fine.
I'm really, really hoping Blogger has seen what a mess they created with this new Word Verification thing and will change it. (Am I functioning in La-La-Land??)
ReplyDeleteCan't believe how warm weather has been for you and other bloggers such as those in the Ozarks. We had light snow all day although it never accumulated to anything. 26 degrees now at 8:40 p.m.
Your lettuce looks DELICIOUS!
Aren't all those seeds cute in their little homes? Just you wait... they'll take over the world- you know they will.
ReplyDeleteYour lettuce looks divine! I am so ready to get outside and put something in the dirt.
But- it is only February....
Judy
I have to start sowing seeds soon too. Let the sowing begin!
