A Good Day...

...right when we needed it most!

A manageable harvest day -

Tomatoes enjoyed on hamburgers while we still can -

A very good mail day, thanks to Apple Pie Gal! -

Finn is a huge fan of honey, so he got the honors of opening the package...

It wasn't even a minute before we were sampling spoonfuls of honey goodness!  Tell PigPen it's fantastic!  Thank you so much for the honey, and what timing - we needed a good spoonful of honey this week!

A follow-up to yesterday's post as well... there was a really neat "paddle-out" where surfers all lock hands out in the ocean and toss flowers into the surf to honor one of our fallen yesterday, check it out, make sure to click on "view all 3 photos", they are awesome!

  1. Now the real challenge is can you create something with tomatoes, hot peppers, and honey??

  2. It looks like you had a honey of a day!

The "paddle out" was such a wonderful way to honor one of the fallen soilders. Every card, note and gesture means so much when you suddenly loose a family member. I don't think people realize how much it helps unless you have been there.

  3. What a lovely tribute that "paddle out" must have been for the lost soldier. I have to believe that somehow he was there and part of it.

Are those sweet red peppers in your harvest photo? Do you know how hard I have to work to get them to turn red? All those hours of knitting little insulated jackets for them!!!

What fun to receive that golden bear of honey all the way from Illinois. What a sweetie that APG is!

  7. Finn looks so excited for that "Sweet" package! And as for your harvest, I just keep shaking my head. Amazing! I think we will be lucky if we get one picking of beans. :(

I can't get two of the three photos to open in your link, but the first one is amazing. What a great way to honor the bravery of our troops.

  9. Can you please sign off on the rights to those photos so that I can use them for marketing??? Hehehe! Oh I just love his little face! Well I am very glad it arrived safely and I hope you enjoy it!

I read the article. What a fantastic tribute. Even the dolphins knew the meaning.

Robin, you have been there, haven't you? I've seen the sidebar on your blog but don't know much else about it, only that I know you have lived through an unimaginable pain, it makes me sad to think about yet gives me hope when people are able to go on and find happiness in life in spite of loss, that takes a lot of strength, strength that I imagine comes from the loved one that was lost.

Mama Pea, those ARE sweet peppers! We have a glut of them this year, both the red bells and the long thin ones, those are the Jimmy Nardellos, or "Jimmies" I call them. It really does take a long time for them to go to red, even in this heat here, so I imagine it's hard for you to get them.

Sue, no kidding! I was going to experiment this year even by trying to ship one to Mama Pea LOL, but I think the thing would explode in the heat before it even left our mail facility this year!

Gran, you aren't fooling anyone - your garden is always divine!!

  12. Mama Tea, if you get some beans we'll balance each other out - I've grown two crops now and havent' gotten but a handful! They bloom and then just bust... too hot to set I guess!

APG, that paddle-out was so cool, I have a feeling there will be more, since most of those guys were pretty active in the local surf community. That honey is truly fantastic! It's light and very sweet but yet not too sweet that you can't taste the "honeyness" of it, makes no sense, but you get it right? LOL, thank Pig Pen for us too, he is obviously found a calling!

  13. What an amazing tribute. Thanks for the link. I see there were two "honeys" in the picture. Your tomatoes are beautiful! Mine are so slow to ripen, I wonder if it will every happen.

  14. That's so awesome! I love presents in the mail. It's like the little sample cereal boxes and bags of chips they used to leave at your door step. Why on earth did they stop doing that!

  15. Ohhh a honey of a present and lovely fresh garden produce to eat. I wish our tomatoes would hurry up and start ripening. Some are just starting to yellow very slightly.

  16. From the sounds of it, you've been harvesting a lot, huh? I'm just starting to get into a harvest now.

Oh, and that kid's smile is so adorable!

Kaytee, I have been harvesting a lot, in spite of all the problems this year. I keep on thinking the garden is terrible, and it does indeed LOOK terrible, but my countertop says otherwise!
