Drumroll, please......!

The first tomato to set fruit in 2011 is.... Amish Paste!  Put on your squinty eyes to see it LOL!

This is the Amish Paste bed, and there are dozens of blossoms on them, seems like just the other day I was setting them out.  There are EIGHT of these indeterminate babies in there, just like all my other tomato beds, so if I go A.W.O.L. towards the end of July, you know what happened.

I wish peas could grow all season here, they are so pretty.

Even the leftover Hillbilly tomatoes that went straight into the unamended sandy clay are doing really well.  This time last year I was already carrying out the dead...

The "Jake Gyllenhaal's" are doing well in pots so far but these are the UFO tomatoes that reached 13 feet last year, these are more of an experiment this year with saved seed, and yes Gran, they are bottomless LOL!  I learned my lesson last year while carrying out the dead...

Potatoes have blossoms forming already

Marley taking a break from chores, she carries the hose for me :)

I have no idea where I am going to fit my pumpkins and random squashes this year, so until I can figure it out, I went ahead and got a start on them today.  At least this time of year I don't have to mess with lights so it's not too labor intensive.

more Marley...

Sprocket is a lost cause unless she is on video, she's too fast and never sits still.  Marley's 9 years old now and is developing a slow appreciation of sitting still for a few minutes at a time.

  2. Oh, man, a tomato already? I had a few blossoms, but they dried up after I set the plants out. But hey, it was 81 degrees here today!

Love the photos of Marley, she's such a pretty girl.

  3. I can't eat raw tomato cause I have a sensitivity to them. But cook some and I'm good. Our gardens are still waiting to be planted. I could have done it a week ago but I can't dig cause of my back so I have to get the husband to do that and there in lies my problem.
    Lovely gardens!

  6. I envy your climate! My tomatoes are still only an inch tall :( I may get some older seedlings at the farmer's market today. Now that I know several of the vendors there carry seedlings, I always wait and buy seedlings there.

Jane, I'm as surprised as you, the warm(hot) weather came fast and early this year, the past week and next only expected high of 70 - 75 every day so we are finally getting the spring that we missed here.

Alison, the tomatoes grew very quickly once put out into the beds, I've already pruned suckers and a few branches off the bottoms!

  11. Kelly, soon you will have little babies too! Marley is gorgeous unless I'm knee deep in brushing her, then she just looks like a big hairball to me :) Hubby commented last night "I wonder if Marley knows what she looks like...", I looked at Sprocket and said "I'm pretty sure she at least knows she doesn't look like THAT!" LOL

  12. Wow, your tomato plants are big! I discovered the first tomato on one of my plants, but the plants themselves are not as big as yours. Cute pictures of Marley, and the Clematis looks beautiful.

Your peas are crazy! You should have oodles. My second row is just popping up so I got a third row started. It's supposed to be so cold this summer, maybe I can keep em going all summer. Wouldn't that be nice?!!
