Eating the green

Just a quick post, we are headed out to do some chores and cleanup in between rain showers, expected on and off rain all weekend.  We need it, but ugh, why does it have to be on the weekend?!

Lots of greens... this is an oil pan (not used for that LOL) if you know the size of that.  I harvested a whole pound of greens, and that's a lot for such a lightweight produce!  I took a bunch in to Loch's teacher since there is a whole bunch more that will have to be harvested as soon as we can eat it.  My little tester carrots I pulled are looking good, not much longer.

The peas are coming in!

Above, Oregon Sugar Pod II snow peas, below are Cascadia Snap peas.  They are both looking like they are going to be very productive over the next couple of weeks.

Enjoy your day!

  1. Oh my goodness! You're so ahead of us in harvesting. Wow, I need to move South! LOL.
BTW, regarding Blogger, somehow the missing posts just showed up again. So don't worry, I'm sure they will restore whatever is missing. I hope!

  2. I'm not letting anyone leave my house without a bag of lettuce! In about three months, I'll be doing the same with tomatoes....even though that seems so far away at this point in time.

  3. Mmmmm.... tasty!
I SO can't wait for my greens to come in.
And I sympathize with your rain. It's raining this weekend. Supposed to be lovely all week and then rain again next weekend. ARGH! What's a working girl to do!

  4. We had heavy rains last night but I'm out in the garden today anyway . . . clomping around with about 5 lbs. of mud on each foot. Weeds are coming out easy though.

Your greens and peas are looking wonderful. Enjoy, enjoy!

  6. We have not had a rain free weekend in 8, yes 8 weeks. I love hitting the weekend flea markets and this is killing me. One sunny weekend wouldn't be to much to ask.

  7. Well. I WAS proud of the 7 (!!!) radishes I harvested this morning. Show off. That's what you are.
    No. I'm just jealous.

  8. Missing my peas this year, just didn't bother to plant. Yours sure look good. Think I will try some in late summer.

  12. Sorry I haven't responded to all your comments, hubby is changing over to working nights again (meaning he NEVER sees the kids except for Friday night and Saturday) so we have been out trying to go for walks, ride bikes, etc with them even though it has been raining on and off. My to-do list is piling up something awful! Now the peas need pickin' again - not complaining though, they are delicious! Why have I been planting shelling peas all these past years? I am fully turned on to snow and snap peas now, way more bang for the space! Hope everyone's weekend is going well, although it sounds like many of us are stuck in the rain...

  13. Hey, don't worry a whit about not commenting. What you're doing with hubby and the boys is so much more important.

Question: How do you preserve the snow peas so they don't come out limp and lifeless? We love them fresh but I have no luck blanching and freezing them. There are still several bags in the freezer from last year that I'm avoiding.

    Don't worry about getting an answer back to me until you have a spare (HA!) moment. :o}

  14. Mama Pea, yikes - I did them the same way as beans, and this is my first year with snow peas, so "I DUNNO!" LOL! I just quick blanched them and froze them about an hour flat on a cookie sheet and then into the freezer in baggies. I'll use one of the bags this week instead of cooking fresh and see how they turn out!

  15. Great harvest, Erin! Our greens are pouring in too. You're welcome to some of our rain. It doesn't look like it'll let up anytime soon.
