Happy Easter!

Here's our day, in an "eggshell"...

We started off with an Easter Egg Hunt in the backyard for all the boys, below is Loch in the back, and friend "T" who lives next door.  Last year I remember dressing them in winter coats at 6 am, today... shorts - it was 89º today!

Here's the boys with their bounty

There's been a lot of talk amongst my blogger friends this week about their Easter traditions and it made me think, and we don't really have any...

So I made one up -

Below, prepping for the 1st Annual Peep Shoot!

I know some of you love the Peeps, but we hate 'em!  The only good Peep is a dead Peep as far as I'm concerned, so we set 'em up for a lovely Redneck Easter :)

As Chicken Mama told me earlier today, "that's sick & twisted" LOL - but that's how we roll :) - and I know if she was here she'd shoot Peeps, too!

The boys had a blast!  Above is Loch, always serious...

Below, Finn in his combat pose...  (check his outfit, he dressed himself)

Below, neighbor "T" getting some instruction on BB gun skills from hubby, for his 1st time he was a pretty good shot!

Poor Purple Peep...

After a lunch break, it was back out to hit the sprinklers, it was that hot!

Marley was a mess, I wasn't too keen on her getting this dirty, but she is a farm dog forced to live in the suburbs, and was having a huge amount of fun for such an old gal, how could I say no?

No Marley vs. sprinkler day is complete without a few neurotic dog videos (some of you may remember her obsession about hoses), so here you go:

In between all this, hubby and I managed to get a huge amount of work done in the yard.  My energy came back at least for today, and we did a lot of chores that have been on my list for a long time.  The kind that always get kicked to the bottom of the list:  a burn barrel going, cleaning the woodpile, raking up leaves and pinestraw from behind the sheds where no one goes, cleaning up random objects back there like broken patio umbrellas, trellises, PVC pipe... do any of you have these dumping grounds?  Not sure how I'll feel tomorrow, but today was very productive.

We finished it off with low-key burgers on the grill in the backyard with the neighbors, a really nice evening.  The kids played today until they were ragged, and I think they will sleep well.  Good thing, since Spring Break is over today and it's back to school tomorrow, YAY for me!

Below, Finn & T dining al fresco, about 82º at 5 pm, beautiful weather...

On this day we celebrate LIFE, and I hope you all had a great day in church, with family, friends, or just celebrating the life around you that Spring brings. Even though we are apart from extended family, we have hubby/daddy home with us this year and are very thankful for that.  Our thoughts are with those that are deployed and serving our country right now so hubby can take his turn with us!

From Redneck VA - Happy Easter to all y'all!

  1. Happy Easter to you!

Peep Shoot! That has got to be the best thing EVER. I think those things are cute, but I'm not all that fond of the taste. But it looks like they make great target practice!

And I'm really not jealous of your weather anymore. 89? No thank you. Too hot for me, especially for April!

  2. "The only good peep is a dead peep." Laughed so hard at that one and your target practice. You guys know how to do up Easter right. You might be a redneck if . . . (finish with something involving dead peeps).

What a difference in our temperatures! Chicken Mama just left here and before leaving was standing at the front door looking out over our yard. She said, "You don't have hardly any snow left here. At my house it looks like mid-winter."

Glad you had a fun Easter. We did, too!

  3. Fun, fun, fun...and funny!

I had an easy day. Not. Harvested, cleaned and chilled lettuce for today's salad, put the ham in the oven, got out the ladder and the hedge trimmers, and spent the next two-plus hours cutting the front yard overgrown arborvitae down to size, pruning six overgrown shrubs, then tried to figure out what to do with all the trimmings. Sorry, but they'll have to go into the landfill, so I filled two large garbage cans and there are more to clean up. Got done with the pruning just in time to get the scalloped potatoes and butternut squash in the oven. I was a mean mom/grandma though, I didn't invite my kids over this year. I'm going to eat my Easter dinner, do the seedling shuffle, then collapse in my recliner in front of the TV. Happy Easter!

  4. What a fun post! I hate those nasty peeps too! What a great idea! I'll save that in my inventory.

My favorite line from those videos is, "too close to the plants!" :) Definitely a gardening family. Love it!

  5. Kaytee, I'm not too excited about these temps, either! I'd be happy with about 68. It goes straight from cold to hot overnight it seems here!

Mama Pea, I would have figured Chicken Mama to be having warmer temps than you!

Granny, you had a FULL day! I bet it feels good to see what all got done, today. We too, had to send some stuff to the trash man today.

Megan, I kept telling hubby "keep those kids and water away from my plants"! I was afraid they would get the seedling leaves all wet at high noon with the scorching sun beating down on them LOL

  6. What a hoot! My kids like to toast their peeps. They puff up and the sugar on the outside caramelizes. Mmmm, Maybe target practice is another thought....

  7. Hahahahaha, shooting at peeps! That is totally hysterical. I love it. That's a nice tradition to keep doing year after year. The egg hunt looked fun too. Happy Easter.

  8. Looks like you had a perfect Easter. Shooting peeps is a fantastic idea! I don't like those things either but I don't have a pellet gun. Do you think it would work with a water gun? I can imagine the soggy mess! LOL!

Love the dog videos! Had me laughing and the kids finally had to come over to see too. They both had a good laugh too which led to them asking if we could get a dog. Answer is a big no cause we can barely afford the two cats we have.

The only tradition we do is coloring eggs, egg hunts and Easter baskets with candies, chocolate and mostly some fun spring things like shorts, games, bubbles etc. My kids are getting a bit old for this but they still like it so we'll keep it up for now.

  9. A peep shoot?????? OMG-I just laughed so loud reading this. Do you think the neighbors "talk"?
Well, you certainly came up with a unique tradition, I must say.
    Thanks for the laugh!

  10. Peep shoot??? Why did I think of that! We are totally doing that next year!!

I am jealous of how green everything is...and the sunshine! I am living through your blog right now... :)

  11. Judy, toasting Peeps! LOL I never thought of that.

meems, I can't wait until the kids are 40 and we are still making them do that :)

Sparkless, the dogs are so much fun! Marley is 9 this year and she is not the frisbee dog she once was, so it was nice to see her up to her old tricks with the hose!

Sue, unusual-yes, but maybe it will catch on LOL!

  12. Sorry, that should have been why DIDN'T I think of that. I was so excited I didn't even catch my typo. :)

  13. Glad you had a great Easter. And I have to say, that is the most unique Easter tradition I have ever heard of. But in my family, it is not good to be armed on the holidays. We might make the news.

  14. Peep shoot - what a fantastic idea. I'll have to show hubby, he'll love that! Normally we're shooting at old boxes and milk jugs... :-) Your dog video cracked me up. Not that our dog messes with the water hoses, but she is definitely neurotic.

  17. Love the peep shoot! Kinda like shooting ducks at the carnival booth, right? Now I've gotta buy some (clearance after easter, hopefully) and use them this summer when the boys play with their rockets. Peeps in space!
