Novelty Seeds to Share!

I don't have my entire seed order in yet, but I do have 2 varieties to share if anyone wants to give them a try! You will have to check your own growing area/requirements for these, and I have no advice since it's my first time for them, too!

Litchi Tomato (Baker Creek) - rare seed, heirloom edible plant but is more of an ornamental oddity, you can read about it here.

Purple Romagna Artichoke (Baker Creek) - not sure if this will produce for me this year, but it is a perennial that I have always wanted to try to grow because it is so huge and beautiful in the yard!

I have a few extras of each of these, and they need to be started indoors 8-12 weeks ahead, so for many of us, that is now! Drop me an email or leave yours in comments section with your address if you are interested in trying one or both of them, and I will get them out asap!

  1. I can't find where to make sure my "email" option is working. Anyone?

  2. Sorry, Erin, can't help you there. I'm computer challenged. :)

I'm growing artichokes as well this year (or at least will try to). Here in New England, I guess you have to trick them into thinking that they've experienced winter in order to get them to produce as an annual. They will not overwinter in my zone 6. Hence, I'm planning on starting my seeds within a week or two and off they go 6 to 8 weeks from now into the hoop house. I think they need at least 6 weeks of nighttime temperatures in the 40s to trick them into thinking that they've overwintered.

    Good luck!

  4. Email-edit profile, check the box that says show email. That should work.

I would like a few of the tomato seeds, would you like me to see if I have one or two to send you in return? I love Baker Creek Seeds, great price, good producing produce!!!

I also have TONS of marigold and morning glory seeds if you would like some. These are from store bought that I saved the seeds from, oh and I have some lettuce seeds-got those from BC. Let me know if you are interested. You can email me @ valeriesgardenblog@yahoo.com.

  5. I can't say I'm not interested in the tomato seeds!

Are you interested in a trade? Have you tried Ground Cherries? Or I have some Bloody Butcher corn that might be interesting... More of an ornamental thing, but they say young cobs can be eaten or mature ones used to make flour. Both I have from Seed Savers Exchange.

    I'm kennethjamesmoore@yahoo.com if'n you please. :D

  6. I don't think the South American Litchi tomatoes, nor the artichokes will work well here in MN. But they do sound interesting! And you've inspired me to do my own seed sharing post. Great idea!

  7. The artichokes are probably too much work for me way up north here but the tomatos sound interesting. I saw the post with the pics. Yowza, they look wicked. I don't know what interesting I've got but I'd be interested in a swap.
