Random Stuff

Yet another super creative post title :)

It sums it up well though, we are getting really close to seed starting time, so I haven't started any big projects around here since my hands (and house) will be full by this time next week hopefully.

I splurged this year on a rolling cart for my lights and seed flats.  I used one for a few years but it was icky and rusty from the shed so I have officially declared that it's not allowed in the house anymore.  Last year I couldn't bring myself to spend the money and limped the operation along with some folding card tables I had and suspended the lights from the ceiling, it was pretty hideous.  This year I got a great deal on a sale cart plus a $15 coupon so I took the plunge.

Finn insisted on putting it together.  He did pretty well with daddy only helping when it got tall :)

There were 2 sizes available for the same price, one was nice and wide at 48" but no wheels and gosh, where the heck would I put it afterwards?  The one I got is a manageable 24" wide, thicker gauge, has baskets and hooks, and wheels.  No brainer for me, everyone knows my love of furniture on wheels!  With this one the lights will hang over the sides a bit but it's only for 6-8 weeks, and afterwards this can become a nice canning or craft storage area that I will actually be able to park somewhere around here without being too cumbersome.

I'm not sure what got into my kids the other night, but they did a spectacular job of cleaning their room!  I wish I had taken a "before" pic, there were legos everywhere... they are obviously fixin' to ask me for something of gargantuan proportion :)

Random:  it's cold in this house!  It's not that bad outside, high 40's - low 50's, but it's been damp and windy and I guess the crawlspace is really cold because I had to break out the Minnesota Girl Getup:

Random:  in case you wondered, this is what a Free Ride looks like:

(I have tried photographing Sprocket the Rocket from every possible angle and the result is the same - you can't tell what you are looking at.  Trust me, she's a dog.)

Random:  Loch made the Honor Roll and Principal's List again, so we are very proud of him.  (He's the one in the gray shirt with his hands in his pocket after I told him to not do that!)

You know what that means... more bumper stickers, just what I need!

Aren't they cute?  He is going to get mad at me for posting that one :)

  1. Two pictures of Loch smiling??? That has to be a record, LOL. I love your cart - that's a perfect seed-starting solution. And that is one relaxed dog in the picture. Made me sleepy just looking at her...

  2. Congratulations to Loch! I think his parents must be doing something right :-)

Boy, would I love to have that rolling cart for my larger seedlings that will want to spend some time outside in April. The old "board on the garden cart" trick is going to get me in trouble some day, not to mention the overflow that has to be moved out and back in, in what seems like about a hundred trips. I tried putting all my flats in the big dump cart last year, but it's too unbalanced and I tipped the entire contents over and almost out. Whew, that was a close call! I need to get my son to put a couple of axles under it, then it would work great.......hmmmm. Now you have me thinking, and that could be a dangerous thing!

    2. Erin, the white comment box doesn't show up in some browsers. I had to switch to Google Chrome, because the white box disappears when Firefox tries to load it. Judy can try refreshing (reloading) the page, that sometimes brings the box back. I was having problems with IE earlier, but the white box does show up for me there now.

  3. Great catch-up post! Had to laugh at your Minnesota Girl Getup!

This will be the first year I don't have the "living room" area to start my seeds in. Yikes! Well, I figure if you can find room for starting your seeds inside, I should be able to do the same. I've already told Papa Pea he is going to have to make room in his small heated workshop area of the garage for our seedlings. (Stay tuned to see if this will be possible!)

Enjoyed seeing the pictures of the boys . . . especially Loch who seems to do a disappearing act every time you have the camera in your hands!

  4. Susan, you know you are right! Loch avoids the camera a lot more than Finn. I think it's his front teeth LOL, for awhile he didn't have any and wouldn't smile. Finn on the other hand is quite proud of his toothless grin :)

Gran you had me laughing because those all sound like things I have done too! I hope for another disaster free year for us and the seed flats LOL

Judy, you are hitting "reply" instead of going down to the comment box! Hey those boots are brand new - last year anyways! I still head to MN as often as we can and my favorite time to go is winter, call me crazy :)

Mama Pea, those boots come in handy so I don't turn the furnace up too high! Usually if my feet are warm, the rest of me gets along just fine. Did you catch that sock I posted the other day? It's so thick it won't even fit in those Sorels!

  5. I love catch up posts. . . and I don't want to worry you but the big girl in my house is still very very very good friends with the boy she's been buddies with since they were 5. . .

  7. I can't wait to see what seeds you'll be starting this year. The cart looks great by the way, where did you find it? Congrats to your little scholar, great job making honor roll again!

  8. Your dog......um...which end is up? LOL!

Congrats to Loch. And I think he looks quite dashing with his hands in his pockets. Future GQ pose? Brains and looks. Must be nice!..............

  9. I love that cart! I need to get something like that - where did you get it from? Right now, I've just got a few seeds that I've started - but the bulk (tomatoes, etc) will come later. You can check it out on my blog at: drewbottsfamily.blogspot.com - Thanks for the inspiration!

  11. I have cart envy.

Way to go Loch! Don't be mad at mommy for posting pics. She can't help it. It's a mom thing. ;)

  12. Stefaneener, LOL! I think being a military family will preclude the kids from having any girlfriends that last that long, but I think it's kind of cool!

Sparkless, I love IKEA for sure, but I have to stay away from there now, I buy too much and always regret it :)

Anke, Cate, Ruth & Dani, cart envy LOL! You're going to grumble now because I got it at B.J.'s, which I think is a pretty local thing, maybe just a smattering of stores in the mid & northeast... but it's like a Costco or Sam's, so maybe they carry the same thing?

Sue, isn't that crazy? In person Sprocket really is a cute little Aussie mix, but in every photo I have taken of her it takes a minute to figure out what animal you are looking at LOL. To complicate things, she makes these rooster noises every morning or when she's upset, and climbs on furniture like a mountain goat. There will surely never be another Sprocket LOL

  13. That's a great shelf for starting plants and then moved to where ever you may need it. And what a cutie you have to put it together. You sure have great helpers, Erin. And oh how they have grown.
