Forced Hiatus

The good news is that we are all alive and well!  The bad news is that I am blogging from the library, yikes!  The computer lightning damage I had about 5 months ago was obviously not repairable for the long term, and my beautiful Mac is dead in the water.  I have an older Mac in the kids' room that I may be able to get up to speed enough to hook up to internet and do photos but it's guaranteed to be very slow.  For the foreseeable future my blogging will probably be done from the library, as a new computer is definitely not in the non-existent budget right now.  Things always seem to happen in waves with us, and this fall has been no exception.  We are having to find the money to repair odds and ends around here since the house is on the market, I have the heatpump repair guy coming over in a bit (oh, joy), and the kids' activities are sucking up every available cent there is.  Good thing hubby insists on riding his bike everywhere, since his car has been in a parked state for months needing repairs.

Ok, are you still with me?  Every now and then I need to vent so I can see the good side of things!  We are warm, dry, family is healthy and together, so shame on me!  But I honestly don't know HOW to function without my computer, the thought of paying my bills from the library is making me anxious already.  Ugh.

I am reading all of your blogs on hubby's phone (oh, did I forget that gem?  My phone died the day Steve Jobs did, sadly), although you might be interested to know that I was still on a 1st generation iPhone, woohoo!  No money to upgrade that, either, so no cell phone for me for awhile, either and it figures the day it went out OF COURSE the school nurse was trying to get ahold of me.  When it rains, it pours.

Anyway, it's hard for me to comment on hubby's phone on your blogs, but I will try when I'm on my library computer days!

Otherwise, we are doing well, doing some fall cleaning of the closets and such, just enjoying the weather!

Man.... another light bulb just went out!

  2. Watch out for those light bulbs! When one goes in our house, another two are guaranteed to go within 48 hours!

'Member last month when I was operating with a negative balance in my checking account? Well, I'm doing better this month. I have $161.54 left until November 1st! At least there are so many of us in this economic mess together that we can lean on each other. Could be worse! (And I know it is for a lot of people. I don't mean to make light of it.)

So, so sorry to hear about your computer. Yes, we have become so dependent on them and they are such a big part of our lives (if I no longer could blog, what would I do??) that they come darn near close to being classified as a necessity.

Praying the Universe sends the right buyer to you for your house . . . SOON! Love to you all.

  3. Same financial boat here, too. AND with a full time job. Sigh. That just stinks about your computer. At least I have my office computer if I get stuck. Can you get a smart phone instead of an iPhone? Sometimes your cell service will offer free phones if you sign up for another 2 yrs. Glad you're all safe, warm and dry, though. I do agree that, when it rains, it pours. But then the sun comes out!

  7. Have you tried blogging from your Kindle? It's slow going, but I bet you can do it.

  8. Oh no, a dead computer is a horrible thing. :-( We just went through it not too long ago and it was very, very frustrating. I know what you mean about several things happening at once. I think it must be some universal law, because the same thing happens to us all the time. Everything will be fine and then bam, several things at once act up or die... I'll keep you in my thoughts, hope things start looking up.

  9. Not too long ago I was doing the library computer access thing, too. Not fun. Sending hopes and good thoughts that things are better soon. And that you have a great QUALIFIED buyer soon!

  10. Oh dear I am so sorry to hear your computer and cell phone died! Right now we have less than $20 in the bank and have 6 days to go till the next payday. You are not alone in the money squeeze situation.
I hope some money comes your way so you can get a new computer and cell phone.

  11. Ugh! Sending good thoughts your way! Hopefully you've had your streak of failing devices.
We got refurbished Mac Minis for the kids- they are great little machines for the price and the refurbs are even cheaper. Maybe you can put a donate button on your blog. We'll all be going through withdrawal without you! LOL!!
    Take care.

  12. Yikes, what a run of dead stuff! I felt like that this summer when both cars, my computer and my cell phone was on the fritz. (All but one car we salvaged.) I have been so busy in my life that I've been MIA on peoples blogs so I had to go back through your posts to see why you were selling your house! Best of luck with it all!

  15. As much as I love "the simple life", I don't think I could ever live without a computer and an internet connection. Is that awful? I don't know how the Amish do it. They should at least set up computer booths outside they do telephones.

  16. Hah! I just went through something similar! I was fortunate that my mother was able to lend me the $ for a new computer, & I was able to get one for fairly cheap. If I didn't have family who could help ( and if i didn't have an online shop!) I'd be in the same boat right now, doing all my computer work from the library and my in-laws house! Hope you get a windfall from something and can replace it soon!
