A little progress!

Funny how a week ago the upper 80's temps felt like an wonderful Arctic breeze, yet after a week my body is now getting used to it and now 89ยบ feels hot again!  Still, I'll take it - and managed to spend a few hours finally getting some work done out there.  Hubby got the lawn mowed and some general cleanup of the piles of debris I have been staging around the yard, and I was able to clear a path to the garden again :)

Before:

After!

I should really be cleaning up the center veggie garden and preparing for fall planting, but with the temps cooling off a little, I really wanted my place to relax to be ready to go at the end of the day.  I can finally see my hammock again!

Dehydrating tomatoes this weekend, they will be great in hummus this winter.

I'm hoping to harvest beans and dig potatoes today - late, yes, but I wasn't very hopeful about them this year and they were kind of forgotten.  After the year's awful weather and insect plagues, I'm sure the tomato digging will be interesting, I actually think I'll have the kids do that job!

Hoping to get a few hours' worth of work done, and than a date night with the family bike riding down at the oceanfront this evening.

  1. Looks great and I bet it feels even better! Funny how we dread it so much and then when it's done we just gaze at our hard work and sigh!

  2. Glad to hear you got some gardening done. I still think it wasn't that bad but what do I know, you should see my gardens! LOL!

I hope you have a wonderful family bike ride.

  3. Funny to hear you say it is late to dig potatoes. I am happy if they are out by first frost. I have been wondering how the peanuts went. Did they make it?

  5. I am so in love with that ornamental grass--I'm sure it wouldn't grow up here, but what is it?
And honey, when it's 89 degrees up here, we take siesta and thats about it!

  6. to steal a page from chicken momma-it still looks "like a jungle out there " only meant in the nicest way a jungle I would gladly lose myself in

  7. We did the same thing yesterday. Ripped out plants and tried to tidy up our front yard garden. Amazing how quick things can grow!

  8. Your dehydrator full of tomatoes are so pretty! I did the same thing yesterday and reduced 5 filled trays down to one pint jar full. Amazing how much they reduce. That hammock looks inviting, no wonder you wanted to find it again. Hope your ride was a good one.

  9. Thanks, everyone! My muscles were tired today, not used to so much squatting and weeding LOL... I need to get back into work mode!

Sue, I don't remember other than some type of Fountain grass?! The only one that is banned from my yard is Pampas Grass, it's too invasive and everyone has it here so that one's lost its punch! I like the reds and pink grasses but they aren't quite hardy here.

Trailshome, no kidding - I only got a little less than a pint!

  10. Hey Erin! Glad the weather's cooling a tiny bit. Do you use the dehydrated tomatoes similarly to sun dried or roasted? How do you store them? Since you suggested I dehydrate some of mine, I'd better learn about it. :) They're about ready now.
