Still trying to catch up

Ever feel like the current is faster than you are swimming?  That's me right now - I had a long list of things to do today but after spending hours trying to retrieve all my photos, I barely got one other chore done, starting another flat of seeds...

These flats were seeded with herbs and flowers this morning and they went outside on the deck, Mother Nature can decide what to do with them and when, because I'm done tripping over my indoor lights, when those tomatoes start hardening off in another week or so that contraption is being put away asap.

I will say that in spite of being somewhat ignored, the tomatoes and peppers are doing fantastic, I do need to start spraying them with seaweed though, that was on my to-do list for today but I didn't get to the store yet to get any.

After all those hours of working on my hard drive, hallelujah!  Look below and the age of the photos is obvious - there they are marching back into iPhoto!  That was the definite upside to the overall very frustrating day - I was actually ready to walk away when I hit something and these photos started copying, I almost did a dance, but my butt had fallen asleep at my desk from sitting so long :)

Problem is, they are all out of order and there are no dates on them to organize them by... over 10,000... there is still work to do - now where did my intern run off to??

  1. I think that's what we all have to do . . . hire more reliable interns (unpaid, of course) so they are always on call! Hoping you can get back to your more regular routine soon. At any rate, your toms and peppers look MAH-VA-LOUS!

  2. Your plants are looking gorgeous! I have big zone envy right now :) I'm totally impressed with your seed binder, too. Can I hire you to organize my life? Please?

Ok I'll ask the dumb question...seaweed? Do tell!

  4. I envy you your tomatoes- I can't even start mine yet :( But the broccoli is looking great! So far the soil blocks are working much better than last year!

No dates in the photo file names? I always set mine up that way: descriptivetag mmddyyyy.jpg or dng. OTOH it doesn't help much when I'm looking for a specific photo and can't remember when I took it!

  5. "Ever feel like the current is faster than you are swimming?" Only about 16 hours a day. The rest of the time I'm sleeping.

I try to file my photos by the date taken (2011-03-22 Garden beds), and most of them are done that way. That damned current is always running faster than I'm swimming though, so I am constantly behind.

  7. Your seedlings are doing great!! And you kill me with the way you organize your seeds. I look at that system you have and am jealous. It's just I have such a MESS going on with mine, I don't even know where to start.

  9. That binder cracks me up. I love the ease of digital camera's but I miss having film developed because then I had the photo to keep forever. Now it is to easy to not print any out and they live forever in the virtual world.

  10. Thanks for the compliments on the seedlings, I'm happy they are dong so well with little intervention this year, maybe this is the year I have the deal figured out :)

About the photos, they all did have the dates on them, but the zip file didn't organize them that way - it's just that in ideal circumstances I would have backed them up into groups by file name, etc - so I could easily find them later. I didn't have this luxury when the hard drive crashed, I was lucky I had about a weeks notice that it was going down and just did a whole system backup into one zip file instead of separate photo, movie, documents, etc. If I felt like paying, my mac guy would probably make sense of it all quite quickly, but I'm cheap so with my new $19 mac textbook I am now finding out the right way to retrieve the whole mess LOL. Needless to say, lesson learned (I never had a backup before this) and I will spend probably one day a week all summer cataloging and backing the new system up properly! Lucky, lucky, though... most people's hard drive crashes with no warning, with mine I had a week to operate in "safe mode" which gave me time to at least save them willy nilly.

  11. APG, seaweed! Where do I start?! It's fabulous! Do check it out online, but I use it as a spray diluted with water for my seedlings, mostly tomatoes. It is an immediately absorbable form of nitrogen that can be taken up by the plant right through the leaves. You can use it for bottom watering too as a wonderful organic fertilizer, but it's expensive. I don't use it once the plants go into the beds unless they are showing signs of distress, but it's fantastic for the seedlings and doesn't reek like fish emulsion :) Good rescue for neglected (should have been repotted) houseplants - yeah, that's me, not much for indoor gardening LOL

  12. Look at all of those white sticks. Definitely professional nursery quality. I just use strips of old yogurt containers. LOL!

  13. Thomas, LOL those are mini blinds from the dollar store all cut up - one little set will put you in plant markers for a lifetime!
