You probably hadn't noticed, but I have been quiet over here! That's because I had to have a new hard drive put into my mac on Friday, yikes! My mac guy brought my baby home last night and I really have my work cut out for me today. While hubby finishes painting the kitchen, I get to try and recover all my data from my online backup service. I'm sure you can imagine how horrifying it is to fire up the computer to see iPhoto saying "ZERO" images, yikes, considering I had several thousand before, among other semi-important things. I consider myself lucky though since in 20 years I have never even had the need for a "mac guy" until now, but he came to the rescue quickly!
As I wait for this long, long backup process to start, I hope I'll be able to check in to all your blogs today - I was able to set up my internet first thing and was floored by the "42 posts!" in my google reader waiting for me :)
One upside: I will soon be able to provide a REAL review of Backblaze Online Backup from someone who has had to actually retrieve the data!
Thanks for hanging in there with me, I felt so out of the loop the past couple of days, now I know how Gran feels with her AZ internet snafus.
At least I did get 2 whole days of yard work done while waiting for my computer, more on that when I can set up my photos again. Zip files, here I come...
Ugh, sorry to hear about that. What a bummer. But thank goodness that you had a backup! I should back up my photos come to think of it.
ReplyDeleteAck-well, at least you had back-up! Last year, I lost ALL my vacation pics when my computer went down-(I thought!), until I remembered I had downloaded a lot of them to Walgreens to have printed out. Now I carry discs on vacation with me and back up constantly. I can't imagine how horrible it would have been to lose all my grandsons pictures. Those were one of a kind....as I'm sure yours are.
ReplyDeleteA back up...oh yah, that's a really good reminder!! I enjoy popping by your blog and seeing all the fun homesteading project you and your family have going on ~ cheers, Jenni
ReplyDeleteGlad you have your computer back. Good luck with installing your back up. Which reminds me I need to back up my pictures and important data.
ReplyDeleteThe only backing up I do is to get out of the driveway. I am going to guess that this is wrong. I though my Mac was smarter than me and took care of all of this stuff. You know and abacus never needed a 'guy'
ReplyDeleteHoping by now you're well on your way to having everything re-installed on your computer. Days when we spend so much time trying to "fix" or figure out our computers I wonder just how "time-saving" they are for us. But then if it weren't for computers there are so many wonderful people I would never have met!! I can't imagine my life without my blogging now.
ReplyDeleteOh, how I hope this never happens to me!! But, I'm interested in your backup system. Can't wait to hear about it.
ReplyDeleteI really considering switching over to a Mac. Every PC I've owned eventually dies prematurely. Marc never seems to have any problems with his Mac.
ReplyDeleteYes, it's a bummer when your computer isn't up and running :-(
ReplyDeleteWhen I reformatted my hard drive last year, I thought everything was safely backed up onto my external hard drive. That's what my Western Digital external hd told me, anyway, when I had it do a "complete system backup". Turns out all it had backed up were my personal files in "My Documents" and on my desk top. I lost all of my email, addresses, favorites, etc. Heck, I always keep copies of all of my documents folders, like photos and music. It's all that hidden stuff I was counting on the backup program taking care of!
