Not the kind of "day off" I had in mind!

I didn't post yesterday because I didn't want to be a whiner! Yes, I was SICK! After dinner Sunday evening I started to feel a little "off". Sure enough, by 8:30 p.m. I was completely overwhelmed by it. Classic flu symptoms, muscle aches, chills. I was under 2 down comforters and then I started shivering, badly, like teeth chattering and felt like I was having convulsions. I checked the thermostat, it was 74ยบ inside so I took my temperature... 95.6!! I ended up taking Nyquil and woke up with only the feeling of being beaten with a baseball bat, but no fever or chills, just tiredness. Strange, but apparently either my flu vaccine 2 weeks ago had some cross protection with another strain, or this was truly a 24 hour flu. (Most people say 24 hr flu to refer to something that isn't the flu at all, but a stomach bug.) No G.I. symptoms whatsover, so I'm thankful for that! I let myself rest most of the day yesterday, just to make sure, but today was completely back in the game, got errands done, car washed and waxed, and was able to check on the garden before the rain started this afternoon. Still not much going on out there.

Thought you might enjoy this:

After a horrible morning trying to get the kids out the door to school while I was so sick, I admitted defeat when they got home and laid on the couch and let them fix their own dinners!

The menu? Peanut butter & honey sandwiches, applesauce and Halloween candy LOL!
One night won't kill them, right?

I am happy to report that not only am I feeling much better, but I was able to get some retail therapy in the form of buffalo check plaid at the fabric store! I came up with the perfect beginner project for this time of year - gift bags for my socks!

Now I need to find the time for that, but at least I have my supplies.

Looks like I should have made that chicken a day earlier, than I would have been able to make the chicken soup the day before I got sick, needless to say, it went into the freezer until I could deal with it and I had canned soup instead :)

  1. I'm so glad you're feeling better! :) Being a hyper type, I'm sure makes it even worse for you to be laid out with the flu.

  2. Dani, LMBO! It's funny how well we get to know each other's idiosyncrasies through blogging! You are so right!

  3. So glad to hear you're among the living again! To be really laid low for any amount of time with your two active boys and two active dogs would be a baaad scene. I know it's useless to say it to you, but rest and take good care of yourself (plenty of sleep and liquids to flush out any germs that might be left in your system) for a few more days so you don't have a relapse. Okay? Okay.

  4. Almost missed this one! Glad to hear the bug didn't last long. Must have been along the lines of what the boys had?? See you even get over being sick fast! Knock on wood, no germs have caught me in over a year, so when it does, it will probably lay me flat!

Hey, PJ&Honey sandwiches are one of my favorites! Especially on toast!

Can't wait to see these gift bags you are making!!

  5. I'm glad to hear that is was a short flu! I remember once when my kids were babies I got the full flu. I ended up laying on the kitchen floor to stop from passing out while one baby was screaming in her high chair and the other was crying on the other side of the baby gate. After that I swore I was never gonna get another flu and get the flu shot every year. Haven't had the flu since but I have had the stupid stomach virus. Thank goodness my kids can fend for themselves now.
Gift bags! What a great idea. This is why I love your blog. You give me lots of great ideas.

  6. Mama Pea, I am taking it relatively easy, especially since I don't have a summer garden right now! But when I was too tired to knit yesterday - that was ridiculous LOL!

APG, I kept worrying about not finding time to start a sewing project since I have so many Christmas socks to do but then it dawned on me when I was stressing about wrapping gifts (last time the wrapping paper didn't survive the car trip!)... fabric drawstring gift bags! I figure it's like an extra gift since they will be reusable and bonus they could be hung from the tree branches too! Of course, we'll see.... it's just a "theory" right now, looks good in my head LOL

  7. Sparkless, I'm with you on that - I had it BAD one year and was out of commission for several weeks! I have gotten the vaccine every year since then and even if it just shortens the duration and severity some years I feel it's worth it - but most years I don't get it at all.

I wouldn't say the gift bags were totally my own brain cells, that idea was conceived while in and out of consciousness on NyQuil LOL! It was my subconscious speaking!

  9. My husband had the same thing 4 days ago. Came home from work, muscles aching and shivering. Next day he felt pretty much fine. A little tired, but otherwise fine. The shivering was pretty intense. We thought for sure big, mean, nasty flu....but nothing. We live in South Central MN.

  10. I'm glad you're feeling better. It sucks being home sick with kids and nobody to help pick up the slack.

  11. Hi Cindy! Nice to see another visitor from the homeland! I'm always so homesick for MN during the holidays... or anytime for that matter LOL! Sounds like the same thing, it came on SO strong I thought it was for sure going to be that "once every 10 years big flu"! Very strange, but I will just consider myself lucky!
