Sick!

Yes, I'm still here, and thanks to those of you who inquired! I have the real-deal FLU! Figures, my appt for a flu shot was in 2 weeks. Luckily the headache is gone and I am just left with the aches and pains. I am up moving around today but will probably be another week before I'm back up to my old self again.

Hot baths, blanket, couch and books, that's all that has been going on here. The garden is a mess, we had 8 inches of rain yesterday, breaking a record, and to that is added another 5-6 inches in the 3-4 days prior so I guess I picked a good week to be sick if it had to happen.

The kids briefly ran a fever on Tues & Wed but seemed to slough off whatever it was and are fine, thankfully. I HATE being sick and being the only adult to care for the kids, I just want to rest and I wish hubby was home to pack lunches, make dinner, take them to lessons, do homework, etc! Not just wishful thinking, either - he'd do it!

Marley the wonder dog is still sick from whatever she ate during the BBQ last weekend. No obstructions were noted on x-ray but it has been 5 long days of problems for her so I am having to feed her a bland diet and shuffle outside in the rain every 20 minutes with her to analyze her bowel movements, or lack thereof! All night long! Needless to say I haven't been getting enough rest. If she doesn't improve in the next 24 hours we will have to go back in for another check and tests.

Funny story for you (not so much for me!) - Last night all I could think about was having a nice Minnesota-Finnish Sauna to sweat this out but I had to settle for a hot bath. The kids' room is where the deep tub is so I ran a nice hot bath, put some menthol oil in there, soothing music, and prepared to relax - it was not to be. CRASH! I was hit in the head with a suction cup basket that fell on me and suddenly I was relaxing with every McDonald's Happy Meal toy issued in the past 4 years!

Some days you're the windshield, some days you're the BUG!

I wish I had a laptop then I could read all the blogs I am behind on! I am a "desktop" girl, but during times of illness I can see the benefits of a laptop!

  1. :( That makes me sad for you! I vote that you phone a friend! Surely a million nice ladies would come rushing in if you did!

Hope you are feeling better soon!

  2. So good to hear from you and know what's going on . . . even though you're down for the count! The good thing is that the kids aren't as sick as you are, but Marley still being sick (did you two eat the same thing??) is the pits.

Just promise us that you'll TAKE IT EASY even when you start pulling out of this so you don't have a relapse. That would not be good.

Sure wish we were neighbors. I'd bring you over all your meals and pack the kiddlies' lunches, too. Sending big hugs!!!!

  3. Wishing you could 'call in sick' for a day or two. Bad enough to be sick, worse to be taking care of a sick dog too. Hope you both are on the mend asap- what else could be going on with M. the W.D.?
(Also hoping you have been calling for dinner to be delivered on occasion and eating off of paper plates!!)

  4. Oh, Erin, I hope you start feeling better! There's never a good time to get sick, nor to get hit on the head with a suction-cup basket...!

Sleep well, eat well, get well!

  6. Oh no, the Flu!! Sorry to hear that you are sick. I tried not to laugh about the McDonald's toys falling on your head. ;) Feel better soon.

  7. Oh Dear! I hope you're soon back on your feet. And I hope Marley is also soon on the mend. You definitely don't need to be dog sitting right now. I wish I was closer so I could bring you some nice soup. Hugs to you.

  8. Bless your heart! The McDonald's toy calamity must have been the point where if you didn't laugh, you'd cry. Rest up, feel better and just take care of yourself.

  10. I'm so sorry to hear you are still suffering from that nasty flu. So did you play with all those toys or just put them back?
Sending you lots of healing thoughts.

  11. I hope you are back on your feet soon! And poor Marley too. When it rains it just pours doesn't it? Especially when the husbands are away.

  12. Is it about time to let the boys help? I'm sure they could band together to help out Mom, and peanut butter sandwiches with microwaved canned chicken soup can taste pretty good when fixed by the kids. It would be a good learning experience for them, and a help to you. Hugs to you and Marley, and good vibes that you both get well real soon.

I got my flu shot today.

  13. Erin, hope you are on the mend soon. It is a real bummer being sick with hubby gone. I put my back out while mine was in Iraq. If it wasn't for our church friends carting the kids everywhere, it would have been real miserable.

BTW, we opened the first jar of pickles and let me say girl, you did not exaggerate. Those are the best pickles I have ever had and they are still crunchy. It's a winner for sure and I will be making lots more next year.

    Feel better soon.

  14. If I were there, I'd make you chicken soup! ;) You "sound" as though you are on the mend. Speedy recovery Erin.

  15. hey, gal. I'm playing bloggy catch up. Your party looked fantastic. What a great job you did for everyone! Hope you are feeling better...being sicky always sucks. Especially when you have to take care of others. I do love the feeling after I am sick and feel better - makes me really appreciate how good it feels and also appreciate how crappy I felt, so it was okay I curled up in bed and slept!

  16. Wow, thanks for all the well wishes everyone! Last night I was able to knit and read again, headache was gone and thanks to some funky meds I took I couldn't sleep so I got to watch a movie too LOL. Last night the skies finally cleared up and temps dipped down to 59 so I had the windows open and the heatpump is officially OFF! Today I feel a bit better, aches are gone and only stuffiness and I was able to mow the lawn, although I will save the rest of the chores for tomorrow. I can't tell you how much the beautiful weather (high of 68 today!) has lifted my spirits. Lorie, glad you liked the pickles, I had to do a second batch with dried hot pepper flakes added since my first batch with the fresh peppers wasn't as hot as I like it! Wow, this is another blog post, isn't it? Better save my words for that, LOL

  17. Well, it's a bummer that you're sick - but great that you're feeling better now! The flu is such an awful illness to have. Blech!

  18. Oh Erin, that all sounds awful. I hope you get better very soon.

This may or may not help anyone at your house, but one of the only jokes I know involves a bug and a windshield. Your kids might like it, and a little comic relief (not the Three Stooges kind where toys fall on your head) might be good--

Q: What is the last thing to go through a bug's mind when it hits a windshield?
    A: Its rear end!

  19. Hope you're feeling better Erin! If we were neighbors, I would totally bring you some chicken soup!

  20. Get well soon!

Btw a hot footbath with mustard-flour before going to bed always works fine.
