Oh, I could just scream! I am on day 4 of having the kids at home during the day, and I checked my email tonight to find this gem posted below! What, is this a "Snow Month" instead of a snow day??? My kids are driving me nuts! And this is happening smack dab in the middle of my cleaning & purging operation (read: piles of stuff all over the house!). So now I can't get anything done for another day. And note how they plan on contacting us "by 5 a.m.", yeah, last time this happened first the home phone rang at 3 am, back to sleep, then my cell 20 mins later, finally my husband's cell phone at 3:30 a.m. Guess I will be turning off the cell phones tonight! Gotta love it when Old Man Winter hits the South.

Parents & Staff,

We realize all our students, staff, and parents are waiting for a decision on the status of school tomorrow, Wednesday, February 3. The purpose of this email is to advise you how and when we will be making that decision.

Very early tomorrow morning, transportation supervisors will be traveling roads to assess conditions. It is our goal to make a decision by 5 a.m. and contact parents and staff immediately by phone and email. As soon as a decision is made, it will also be posted on the home page of the school division's web site vbschools.com. Additionally, we will inform local television stations for their early morning newscasts. Should school be open tomorrow, it will be operating on an adjusted dismissal schedule.

The bottom line is the weather conditions are such that we need to monitor the situation overnight. This isn't a perfect process and we ask your patience. In the end, safety is our all-important goal. Thank you and enjoy the rest of your evening.

  1. It never bothered me to have my kids home when we were all homeschooling. Now that I have a routine, if one stays home it feels differently. I don't know which way is better.

  2. That's the thing, if I would have known, I would never have started my big project, and I would have been prepared with some kind of "kid friendly" projects LOL

  3. Oh, do I understand. Do I ever. Our system refuses to cancel school before 5:30 AM. They usually wait until 5:45 or 6:00. PRoblem is, is that I've GOT to have the kids up and in the car by 5:45 or we'll never make it to school. I can't tell you the number of times we've been on our way to school and had to turn around.

If you have one more day at home...may the force be with you.

  4. Still here! At swimming lessons with the boys now knitting and texting, not at the same time! Funny the YMCA has been open all week, I guess that's a kind of school! They go back tomorrow, yay! And hubby came home 3 days early!

  5. I didn't realize that Virginia was in the midst of some kind of winter storm...is it serious? I think schools here in Massachusetts are a bit more hesitant to announce school closings.

  6. My youngest sister and her six year old autistic son live with Mom/Grammy in central Oklahoma. They had several snow/ice days in a row, too (same storm, I think).

Everyone was very happy - even the boy, who doesn't especially like school - when the schools reopened.

Glad to hear that your husband returned!
