I have been sick, sick, sick the past 10 days. Yuck and yuck. Nothing that newsworthy but it was the worst cold I can remember, lost my voice for about 5 days and even though the sick has left, I feel like I got hit by a truck energy-wise. It's better every day though, and by the time this big storm we are supposed to get the next 3 days moves through I should be ready to get my gardening butt in gear.
I haven't gotten any yard cleanup done yet, it's been pretty cold here and every nice day we have temperature wise has been accompanied by rain and mud. Soon enough I'll be able to get out there but I feel like I have my work cut out for me more than ever this year. It's a mess.
For now, just planning the garden and imagining how it will look once spring cleanup is done! Until then, I have to wear these blinders Loch made...
And mom... I will have a post up with the boys' swimming videos soon!
I tried to find your email but was unable to. I just wanted to let you know that your blog is inspiring. We live on a cattle farm and had decided small garden this year and I would be buying my plants-not ones that I had started. Well, your comment on how much fun it would be to start from seed made me think----yes, it would be more interesting if I tried to start from seed. I've done it before but didn't have much luck-hence why I was considering purchasing plants this year.
Thanks for the inspiration.
Hi Cindy! You are living on a cattle farm and trying to get your garden started so you definitely get a "pass" on starting seeds LOL! Don't think for a minute that I won't be purchasing ANY plants at the nursery... it's simply not possible to walk by them and not get any :) I wish you well in creating your garden and hope the weather is kind to you this year!Delete
I think it's been a good thing your weather hasn't been cooperating enough to let you get outside to start on your garden/yard clean up. As down and out as you've been with your sicki-ness, your body needs a little more time to rest and recover before you start getting all physical!ReplyDelete
My seed starting operation is like yours . . . as we get more "vacant" areas actually finished into living/usable space, each year I find I need to find a new spot for the seed starting. I've already warned Papa Pea that I'm afraid it's going to have to be in the heated part of the garage again this year. Only problem is the spot where I had it last year is now taken up by a permanent work area of his. Don't cha think we all really need a heated greenhouse??
A heated greenhouse would be SO nice! Especially for you! Honestly I can't believe I haven't given up on seeds yet with how small our house is, it's got to be the variety available that keeps me coming back for more - that, and all you enablers out there!Delete
Glad you're feeling better. I want to do more outdoor seed starting, but the birds mess it all up. Maybe next year I'll go back to indoor -- again, this year it's gotten away from me. I'm always impressed at how much you get done.ReplyDelete
Stefaneener, those darn birds, I always have to battle them for my pea and bean seedlings and I swear this year I might sleep outside with my .22 rifle at the ready LOL!Delete
I hope you are feeling up to speed soon. Nothing worse than a cold that won't leave. I like Mama Pea's idea of a heated greenhouse. I need one too. I don't start seeds because there is no where I could put them. Every spot in this house is being used. We just wait till it's warm enough outside and plant our seeds outside. The husband will buy a few tomato plants and sometimes I'll pick up a few other plants. So it won't be until May or later for us to begin our garden.ReplyDelete
Sparkless, I'm not too happy about taking up the only counter space I have, that's for sure! A heated greenhouse would be awesome! I could probably use it as a crematorium in the summer though LOLDelete
Love those goggles! And the hair! I'm sorry to hear you have been sick. I guess it's better to be under the weather when the weather stinks, but still... hope you're better soon and that your seeds arrive tomorrow!ReplyDelete
Susan, that hair has been cut finally haha! My seeds WOULD have arrived this afternoon, if it wasn't for my neighbor parking in front of my mailbox, grrrrrrr!Delete
Glad you're feeling better! Good luck with your seeds! I love Baker Creek seeds, worth the wait! Their catalog is one of my favorites!ReplyDelete
Megan, thanks! I'm glad to see you have gotten back into garden mode and are blogging again, we missed you!Delete
My seeds were started a few weeks ago, but the yard and garden has not been readied yet. Too cold, then wet, then windy, not back to wet... Argh... We are supposed to have temps in the low 60's this weekend and I do hope to get a few things accomplished.ReplyDelete
Anke, we do have similar weather it seems, the wind and mud just won't seem to let up. The big storm that's moving in here tonight is supposed to dump 3-8 inches of snow just 45 mins inland from us but the coastal influence should just be giving my immediate area.... wait for it..... wind and rain and mud. LOL.Delete
My Territorial order came today... Debating if it's too early to start... I don't have lights tho...ReplyDelete
Ruth, I'm STILL waiting on my order.... ugh! Hope you are feeling better :)Delete
Do you have pictures of your lights in the kitchen? I need to do something small for starting some seeds as just set them in the window but don't quite know what I want. NancyReplyDelete
Cozy Thyme, I will get up photos in a day or so, I hope to be setting things up this afternoon. I'm going to try and get them set up in my kids room if I can find a spot. I don't want to have to drill holes for hooks in my kitchen ceiling if I can help it. I find that things like basil can work well in a window but the light really needs to be just an inch over the tops of tomatoes and peppers or they end up leggy and not very strong. If you decide to go the route of lights however, remember that you only need the cheapo shop lights from a big box store, don't get the super expensive greenhouse type stuff. If you get a few minutes you can surf anywhere from Feb-March-April of my posts of years past, I have had several type setups based on what space I had :)ReplyDelete
