Things that make you go hmmm....

Nope, still not Armageddon...

...it's Trader Joe's!  Ouch, I bet this guy had a good sob when he walked out from the store!

It's a RANGE ROVER, gulp!

The other day a new Volkswagen actually caught fire in the parking lot and a total of 5 cars burned, but this one was the only one left for several days, because the tires had melted into the pavement, yikes!

Spotted at pet supply store...what do we have here?

I'm not sure if people are feeding these to their reptiles or if they are growing them to the moth stage, but all I could think of was that this would be a nice revenge idea for the neighbor gardener that calls the police on your illegal chickens.  For $10.49 you could literally let loose a can of whoop-a$$ on their tomato garden, bahahahaha!

Now on to the serious stuff...

Have you seen this lizard?

MISSING:  1 Leopard Gecko Lizard named Gordon Gecko (any 80's Wall Street fans out there?)
*LAST SEEN sporting a CamelBak with an iPad tucked under his arm making a break for freedom Sunday night

Seriously... there is a gecko running loose somewhere in my house - mom, do you want to come visit now?

I set up a "trap" consisting of a heat lamp on the floor and a cookie sheet decorated like Arizona, keep your fingers crossed!  I also had to "feed" the mealworms to make them appetizing and wiggly to lure the guy out of hiding, first time for me doing this, enjoy...

ewwwwww!

Strangely, I'm okay with the possibility of waking up with a 4 inch gecko next to me, who 'da thunk it? This is obviously the reason I was only given boys to raise :)

See the crazy stuff that keeps me from blogging with any regularity lately?!

  1. We had our ball python get out of her enclosure once. She was gone for three weeks, finally found her underneath a dresser, never knew where she was. I don't think I ever told my Mom as she would never visit then.

  2. Nope. Nuh-uh. No way. I am never coming to visit you, Erin. Or you either, CR. I can't even stand to look at the meal worms.

When Papa Pea was teaching he frequently kept various kinds of little lizards in a terrarium in his classroom so when we made trips to the big city we would have to bring back meal worms for food for them. I always felt creepy-crawly all the way home with them in the vehicle. ((Shudder.))

  3. My boys have a gecko but he is a picky eater - he will not touch mealworms. So we feed him crickets. Wonderful noisy crickets. You can also feed your mealworms dry oatmeal. Good Luck finding your escape artist!

  4. I remember one time my Grandfather changed his oil and never put the plug back in. He drove to the store and what happened next is what happened at your trader Joe's. At least most of the damage was only to his car that went up like a roman candle. You brought back memories there.

And who knew there was a market for hornworms?

  5. Man, at $10+ for a jar of hornworms I could have made a killing last summer. We had a bumper crop. I'm kind of dreading how bad they will be this summer.... Oh, wait... maybe I can sell them at the petstore!

  6. I know what you mean, keeping boys out of trouble,is now my full time duty. and guess who wants exactly whats lose in your house, yep,Anthony wants one so bad,he says"its only $4.00" I don't think so ,I think its big bucks after you buy a cage and food and whatever else goes with a lizard. We already have a yellow snake downstairs,in a locked cage or I would not be in the same house.Good luck "gecko hunting"

  7. I had two small lizards while growing up. My mother, "Mrs. Clean", actually allowed one to live on the ivy plant on our dining room table, and the other on a plant on the kitchen windowsill. We would leave our screened porch door open so the flies would come in, then turn the lizards loose on the screens to dine.

I know what it's like to have small pets loose in the house. One day I was sitting on the pot, when I heard a "scritch, scritch" sound coming from below me. I looked down, and there was my daughter's hamster, swinging from the toilet valve. I put her back in her cage, and noticed a mass of what seemed to be worms in the bottom of the cage. Turned out to be little hamster babies, and we didn't even know we'd bought a pregnant hamster!

  9. I'm not too squeamish around bugs or beasties. I used to pick up the garden snakes and voles (still alive) that the cats used to bring us and gently put them back in nature to hopefully live. And one of our favorite things to do when we were kids was to look under the rocks in the rock gardens to see the bugs.
I hope you capture Gordon before the dogs do. If not I hope Gordon eats all the bugs in your house first and then you capture him.

  11. Maybe we should all start collecting the horned worms in the garden and sell them to pet shops? Last year I could have sold a bunch...

    1. Kelly, we found him this morning before school! I walked into the kitchen and thought I spotted a dust bunny or something and then saw the striped tail - threw a towel over him so he couldn't run and put him back. His 2 day walkabout is DONE! LOL

  13. The only reptiles I will allow to wander unchecked around me are turtles. Had a nice tortoise for a while who was free-range. Snakes? Nope. Lizards? Nooo-oope. You are the perfect boy's Mom!

  14. Great job with those boys! I love the gecko, but the meal worms are gross. I think snakes are VERY cool too. :)
