A Quiet Christmas

Although we were sad to not be traveling home to Minnesota this year, there is always this to be thankful for...

At least we weren't part of the throng of cars trying to leave the Beach last week!

Instead, I used up a lot of my home canned tomatoes and sauce, peppers and onions to make a big batch of chili.  Low stress, and we ate off it all weekend!  The kids were very happy to see that Santa could still find them even here in Virginia LOL.

Yesterday we had a great day out riding on some of the nearby trails.

The weather was a fantastic 48º, perfect for riding.  I'm hoping those higher temps will stay away for awhile now, I don't care for warm winters at all -  it was 76º last Thursday!

It's raining and windy today so I'm using the time to catch up on the extra helping of laundry Santa seems to have left me, but am hoping to get sewing or reading this week, and to go out and check to see if the greens I planted are going to do anything.  The past couple plantings didn't work out at all, with either rain washing the seeds away, or having them sprout in nice 55 degree temps only to have them yell "uncle" when the next few days rose to almost 80.  I'm giving up for the remainder of the season out there and will be planning for springtime instead very soon!  Hope you all had a great holiday!

  1. What a sane holiday! And what is it with that holiday laundry -- if Santa can bring presents, he ought to bring along a couple of elves to help with the laundry, too!

  2. Sounds like a nice Christmas. Our place looks like yours , believe it or not. It's in the 40's, and NO SNOW. The weatherman said last night we are already down over 4 feet of snow for the season so far. Not a very Merry Christmas to all the businesses relying on snow.

  3. Your holiday sounds quite peaceful. Remarkably, we've got similar weather. We had about 45 yesterday. And they're predicting sunny and 51 for Dec 31. Go figure.
I'm still working on laundry as well, LOL! You'd think that with not having to go anywhere the kids wouldn't go through so many clothes! I think they hung out in PJs all Christmas day.
    Have a great week.

  4. Now that looks like great fun, biking on Boxing day. Most certainly it's as fun as skiing or sledding. Glad to hear you had a great Christmas.

  5. Are you sure those pictures are not from October ;) Lets hope 2012 gets it together and is a little more 'normal', what ever that is these days.

  6. Kinda sounds like our Christmas - minus the bike ride and the chili. :-) We stayed home, ate good food and just hung out together. Our temps are in the mid 40's right now and we had a ton of rain yesterday. If it stays dry for the rest of the week, I plan on weeding some of the vegetable beds. We'll see how that goes... Enjoy the rest of your week!

  7. Hey, send that warm weather my way, I'm freezing up here! Even though it did climb all the way up to 50 today, the wind chill ruined an otherwise beautiful winter day.

I had 16 of us for Christmas dinner, but it went smoothly and a good time was had by all. I put all my decorations away today, so we're actually back to normal at our house.

  12. It seems like many of us had relatively quiet holidays this year, I wonder if it was the weather?!!

Chicken Mama, ha! I didn't even notice that until I looked at the photo again :)
