It's finally Friday!

It's been a busy week, and I'm glad that it's Friday evening!  Before I head out to finally tackle the garden, I'll purge some of the highlights of the week here :)

Loch's open house at the Math & Science Academy was this week, and he was eager to show us his new school.
Here's their garden, ready for fall planting!

Posing in front of the school

Showing off the school's new t-shirt design, and check out the dolphin, it's covered in money!

They have a gazillion class pets in his classroom, some kind of bearded dragon, 2 other unknown lizards, turtles, crickets (for food, I presume), fish and...

Madagascar Hissing Cockroaches!  The masking tape made me laugh - when we went to tour the school last spring the teacher told us all about how the huge cockroaches escaped last year and had to be rounded up, I guess this is the new solution :)

Here's the "chore board"... check out the upper right hand corner :)

Other events - I got started on my list of maintenance action-items...

Here's the new pair...

Turns out my days of 20/20 are over, not only did I need glasses, but I am now going to be sporting multifocals - I imagine I'm in for a nice surprise when the glasses are in and I first pick up a book again!  Wow, glasses are expensive.  Of course the eye doctor quoted about $600, I almost choked - then I hightailed it over to BJ's (our equivalent to Costco), they were cheaper than anywhere else and I was able to order virtually the same pair for $196.  Still expensive, but at least now I will be able to see.  At $600 I think I'd stay blind!

I might have mentioned it's still been in the high 80's and 90's still here, no longer!  Yesterday the temp fell 20º in 20 minutes!  We were leaving music lessons hot and sweaty, when the winds picked up to about 35 and the cool air just started blowing in fast.  I felt like doing a happy dance in the parking lot!

what a difference!

My eye appt prompted me to go ahead and get my haircut (for the first time since last November!), which prompted me to go home and "wash that gray right outta my hair", that culminated in eyebrow tweezing and a home pedicure.  None of those things will help my blood pressure but they sure improved my outlook!

It's 65º outside right now and after dinner, I WILL go outside and see what the garden has for me, I have really neglected it for about 10 days, and from the back door I can see what looks like red confetti all over the beds... cherry tomatoes I'm sure!  Oooops.....

  1. A haircut, color, glasses and a pedicure can do wonders!!

  2. Loch's school sounds like a great place to learn! Of course, I'd rather not be the one in charge of watering the roaches. I got glasses last year and so far I only need them to drive or watch TV. I was told bifocals are in my future though... Enjoy the cooler weather, it was in the 60's yesterday and 70's today - bliss. :-)

  3. Poor Loch looks about as thrilled with school as I was. Either that or the "aww Mom" with the photos :)

  4. I think we all want to see a picture of the newly "no gray" coiffure, pedicured feet and you wearing the new eyeglasses! (Don't laugh. It might be the highpoint of my day. ;o])

  5. Wow that is a huge difference in price for those glasses. Glad you found a better price. I'd be staying blind too if I had to pay $600 for glasses. Doesn't it make you feel so much better to spend some time on yourself? I think I'd due for a me day, my eye brows are getting way too bushy and my grey used to be a statement but now just makes me look old.
Loch looks to be at an incredible school although you'd be hard pressed to see it from his expression. LOL!
Glad to see your temps have come down so you can get out into your garden.

  10. It sounds like you had a day like the doctor would order! Yay for haircuts and pedicures. One of my granddaughters just enrolled in beauty school, I can't hardly wait for her to practice on me :-)

  11. Erin- Loch's school looks impressive! If that dolphin was in some of our schools, I think even the teachers would be chiseling it off these days. I hope he and Finn (and you!) have a great year. It sounds like you're off to a good start! :)

  13. It's amazing what a new pair of glasses will reveal. I am holding off trifocals by a hair -- but I think my next round of check-up/glasses will involve a pair. Speaking of glasses, those are sharp! Has Loch grown? He looks taller, standing in front of his school. I took care of my yellow "confetti" last weekend - enjoy the cooler weather!

  15. Oh my, $600 is outrageous isn't it?!? Thank goodnes you were able to find somethng for less. I love that you are on a make-over roll here, keep having fun. :)

I am again a bit envious of that classroom and it's critters. Oh how I want a bearded dragon. I would kindly leave the roaches behind though, lol. What a great year the boys are getting off to!

Patty, LOL I was thinking the same thing about that dolphin!

Ruth & Ribbit, I don't remember a fall that I looked forward to more than this one :)
    ***
Susan, Loch is getting taller! He's about to my shoulders now, I say that's big enough to mow the lawn now LOL
    ***
Kelly, I usually don't spring for extra warranties on stuff, but I sure did on those glasses! I asked her if it covered the dog eating them, since that would be the most likely catastrophe and she said yes so at only $18 extra I did it LOL

Lori, even though it was a DIY pedicure and a $13 haircut, it sure improved my outlook :)
