Warning - 10 minute video!!!

You saw that title and you're still here?  I didn't realize it was that long until I got inside and starting uploading it, sorry about the length!  I get distracted in the garden easily, like watching a soccer team of 4 year olds playing in a field of butterflies LOL, before I knew it I had a 10 minute video :)  I figured instead of taking lots of photos of the end of season messy garden, I'd do a video tour to give you a better perspective on what's going on out there.

The end of season mess is always there on some level, but thanks to this year's 6 weeks of 100+ temps and my lack of willing participation in those lovely working conditions, I have my work cut out for me.  Get ready, there lots of mess and bugs to gasp at!  Now remember folks, I'm a 'Master Gardener' - insert howls of laughter here...  It's truth-tellin' time!

the "Honest" garden...

Hubby has the day off today, so I expect we will get a bit done out there with him running burn barrels of bugs and twigs while I prune and yank :)  Hopefully, results soon...

  1. Yikes, sorry about all that jet noise, I just "watched" the video LOL. I wish I could say that was a bad day for it but that's just average. If those were commercial I'd probably lose my mind, but those are Navy fighter jets, the same ones that provide income for us LOL. They bank turns right over my garden, so close I can see their helmets haha, guess I get used to it but it sure sounds bad when it's on video!

  2. Let's face it - not much can hold up under that much heat for so long. I still think your garden looks better than mine, for what that's worth. I like the pathways and design of your garden. My hops plant was attacked by something that turned the leaves into lace. I am going to dig them up and move them this fall. Thanks for the guided tour!

  3. Hey, at least you you give it to us straight! Gosh you sure did have alot of burn out. Not surprising as it goes. I will find it hard to hold you accountable when I can't muster the energy to do it myself! How much fall planting do you have planned?

  4. Erin, I am totally surprised that anything is growing in your garden after all that heat! In spite of everything, you did manage to get a lot from your garden this year.

So, what are you planning for your fall and winter garden???

  6. Susan, thanks! The design is nice and it gives us much needed outdoor living space...WHEN the temperature isn't so inhospitable!

APG & Robin, y'all are killing me! FALL Planting LOL... I haven't gotten that far yet, but I better get in gear I guess! Probably the usual suspects, lettuces, peas, chard, spinach, garlic, leeks & shallots. I think I'll skip the broccoli this year since I know the worms will probably be pretty bad given everything else that's happened

  7. Judy, I don't know what language I speak anymore, some demented mixture of Southern/Minnesota accent LOL... I say "ally'all" but in the same sentence have been known to throw in a "dontcha know" or an "eh?". I'm sure the natives around here probably think I'm from some "-stan" country or something :) You had me puzzled at the round picnic table - I think I know which one you are talking about, that IS indeed a little kids table, it's square but has a seat that goes all around. I should get rid of it soon, as the kids are a bit big for it now, it came with an umbrella that left in a hurricane 2 years ago to greener pasutres LOL.

  8. Erin, considering how hot it has been, you still got quite a nice harvest. Maybe now that you showed me yours, I'll show you mine. ;-) You could call it "southern fried gardens"...

  9. I don't think your yard looks bad at all. Some of those really big weeds look nice. Now my weeds look nasty and have big thorns on them or are poisonous like black nightshade.

With those high temps all my plants would have died and my yard would be all brown so yours look wonderfully green and alive still.

  10. Anke, I can't complain about the harvest this year, even though it seems like I just planted and left it to its own devices, I know I must have worked for it somewhere LOL

Sparkless, the one saving grace is that I plant native, drought tolerant species in my perennial beds, otherwise the carnage would have been much greater!

  11. Loved the tour! This time of year, most gardens look either overgrown or fried or both, and yours was in pretty good shape, considering the brutal weather we've all had. Your yard seemed pretty big, which makes keeping up with it even harder. Here's hoping for some beautiful weather going into fall! (It's been too hot to do much in mine, too.)
