A Good Man...

To say I've been overwhelmed lately is a huge understatement.  I haven't done a thing when it comes to weeding or keeping the gardens even remotely pleasant to look at and it's all I can do to harvest and preserve this year with the heat.  I think Sailor/Farmer/Husband could feel a mental breakdown coming on (guess who usually bears the brunt of that fine event?), so he asked what he could do while I was stuck inside doing laundry and computer stuff this weekend?  I responded in typical Type-A fashion, whipping out a dry erase board that has everything listed that needs to be done!

He didn't even roll his eyes, he just walked out the back door and disappeared for about 3 hours.  When I took a break to see what, if anything, got accomplished, I was stunned!

I figured I'd find him cleaning out his shed or working on his bicycle :)

You wouldn't believe what the before photos looked like of the fenceline beds before he cleaned them up, but I'm sure you can imagine from all the debris!  I couldn't even find my apple trees thanks to some native 6 ft weeds that had forested around them.

9 ft tall Mammoth Sunflowers were yanked.  You would have gotten a laugh out of where I planted them this year... they looked awesome... from the neighbors' yard LOL.  Note to self, plant on the other side of the yard next year :)

He tossed the heads on the patio for the birds to pillage whatever's left.

Eggplant, anyone?  I'm done!

After doing all that, he then proceeded to get ready and go ride 20 miles!

and that's why I married a much younger man!

I'm on my own for the center garden tomorrow... if I can find it!  The pathway is getting a little obscured.

Finally, check out what Lochlann is building today, it had like 1200 pieces!

That thing would be torture for me, but he gets so excited when he gets a new one!

  1. LOL!! We have the same dry erase board. And we make the same kind of lists. OMG--am I type A???

You're right. He IS a good man. And you deserve that.

  2. Sue, haha I asked him the same thing - he said it was some kind of temple, looks a little Far East -y to me LOL, he buys whatever has the most pieces :)

  3. We have a dry erase board with a cork board on one side. I only use it for messages though and shopping lists of things we are out of. My other lists are on paper. If I made a list of all the things that need to get done here it would be 20ft long!

Do you think I could borrow your husband to get some work done here? I guess I'd have to pay his plane ticket to get him up here though. I do have a 15 year old son but he only plays video games and complain when I ask him to do anything.

Love the temple Loch is building. My kids used to make dinosaurs out of similar kits but not with that many pieces.

  4. Honey, you need a younger man to keep up with YOU!

What will Loch do with his structure when he's done building it? Is it something he'll set on a shelf in his room or does it gets dismantled right away?

  11. Erin, I think I'll have to show this post to my hubby. Maybe that'll get him a bit more motivated... Your hubby is setting the bar very high! :-)
It's awesome that Loch has the patience to sit and built something like that. My girls would never, ever attempt that.

  12. Sparkless, this is the list of just what's needed to get "caught up"! My mental list is much longer LOL. Seems as if men need a list otherwise they wait until someone actually TELLS them to do something...

Mama Pea, he'll set it on his shelf for awhile until running dogs or Finnegan knocks it down, then he'll rebuild it :)
    ***
Jane, I bet that has its benefits too, sometimes I feel like I have 3 little boys running around here, it can be a bit overwhelming when one of the little boys is actually old enough to know better :)
    ***
Dmarie, Mama Tea & Gran, I'll definitely keep him - too bad he doesn't have more time on his hands, I'd hire him out! :)
    ***
Judy, it definitely looks like it needs a stick Buddha in there as well!
    ***
Dani, haha, and then you'd send him back once some of his "more endearing" qualities surfaced LOL!
    ***
Judy (2), now you reminded me about that pesky military thing... sometimes when he's working in the garden I forget LOL!
    ***
Lorie, makes me wonder if he's buttering me up for one of his wild schemes...

Anke, that model stuff isn't for me, either! Give me a book or ball of yarn instead :)

  15. Ha - I can't imagine he can keep up with you! It is always a wonderful thing when someone actually follows your list, isn't it? That model is totally awesome! I can see that Loch has no problem focusing...

  16. WOW! What a man!!! Now you need to qualify what "much younger" is.... ;)

Sending you more in an email.

  17. Wow, now that's a good man! Very sweet of him to dig in like that! And not even roll his eyes? He's a keeper!

Kelly, Loch is very patient, he doesn't get that from me LOL! What have you been up to? Post and check in to your fans, girl! I'm going to try a few of those bean seeds you sent this week to see if I can get a late season crop!

Susan, the man definitely needs a list - otherwise he just wanders around looking for trouble :)

  19. Ribbit & APG, okay I'll tell you LOL... he is 7 years younger than me! May not sound like much until you consider that he's the same age as my "little" brother and we are in different DECADES LOL!
