Nothing earth shattering today...

More working on tomato bed pruning, pulled a few weeds.

Weather was very nice again!

Kids to the YMCA pool again...

Pruned out some of last season's strawberry puree from the freezer...

Added some of the whole blueberries and watermelon chunks we still had frozen with some yogurt...

Smoothies!

Dropped one of my precious carrots from yesterday's harvest on the floor -

Proceeded to forget about the brats I had going on the grill for dinner, so we had lumps of charcoal with our salads and steamed carrots.

I'm in the process of making Jane's Gr@penuts and thankfully those will turn out well!

Now headed out to the small health food grocery here to restock on flour, we are completely out and aren't ready to make the mill purchase yet.  I've been making bread and pitas pretty regularly now so I can't be caught without flour!  Will also soak some chickpeas for the week's supply of hummus I need to make tomorrow.  Anyone else think the co-op and soaking chickpeas sounds like a rockin' Saturday night?  'Fess up!

  1. About the same here went to Menard's and invested in a kiddie pool because it is actually hot up here in freezer land.

  2. Question: What do the frozen watermelon chunks look like when you defrost them? Good only for putting in the blender and smoothies? Would they be good in a dish for a cool treat?

What are we doing for a wild Saturday night? Chicken Mama just left here with one of two couches we need to get rid of so we can have a clear room for the remodeling. Tried to talk her into taking both of them but no go. At least with her help (she be one strong girl!) we got the other one out of the room, too. I'll advertise and see if we can get a few $$$ for it.

    Papa Pea is out finishing up "just a little more of the mowing." If I can stay awake long enough (full day working outside), I'll have a glass of wine and try to clear off this messy desktop. I think my Saturday night might be more boring than your Saturday night. ;o}

  3. Both of your Saturday nights, Erin and Mama Pea, sound about like mine-just the right kind. :) We're grilling some burgers...as soon as I can get my butt up off this chair. Tired body from work and sun today. But, thank God for both! Didn't get that laundry hung out yet, but I may still do it and leave it there until it's dry tomorrow. Then a shower and crash on clean sheets. :) Happy Sunday to you, Erin!

  4. I read 'proceeded to forget about the brats' and had a very different idea about your Saturday night. I thought that sounded a bit harsh ;) And a day is not complete here without soaking some beans. Fun fun.

Mama Pea, I never thawed them out, so I don't know how they would be, probably mushy! I don't even like watermelon, but we had a couple of good ones last year so I couldn't let them go to waste, they went right in frozen and were covered up by the yummy strawberries and blueberries anyway!

Patty, grilling burgers and relaxing is exactly what you should do! I know you probably overworked it today since the nice weather has finally arrived for you.

Jane, LOL, yeah that's as in "bratwurst" :) I can imagine you are always soaking beans!

  8. Grrr....I tried to post last night. I was saying that if you threw back a home brew and played some Van Morrison while you were on kitchen duty it sounds like a perfect Saturday evening to me. :)

  9. Thomas, heck no! I am coveting the WhisperMill, it runs around $260 so I'll have to wait for it, but Mama Pea has had it for quite awhile and did a great review on it and I trust her since she's been grinding her own stuff for decades I believe, she knows her mills!

Kelly, how did you know? LOL I was kneading bread dough the other night and one of my favorite Van Morrison songs came on and I stopped and had to sway dance in the kitchen with dough stuck all over me haha! "Into the Mystic" of course, what else for this Navy gal?!

  10. If you said, "Hey wanna come over" and do all those things, I'd be there in two seconds flat! We are all skewed in our idea of a good time cuz that is my idea for sure!
