Headed out now to "walk the estate"... i.e., water gardens, pick up dog poop, toys, check seedlings, LOL...
Have a great garden day everyone!
A military spouse's take on blooming where you are planted. I continue to pretend I am living on my dream farm while in reality, I live on a military base, gardening in a plot alongside a Navy flightline, with half of my homesteading supplies perpetually packed in boxes and have a habit of being overly involved in every community we live in. I'm a busy mom to 2 boys and a spouse to a Navy sailor soon nearing retirement. I love this chaotic life wouldn't trade it for anything!
Thanks for this Erin! We need all the help we can get with getting the kids outside and in the garden.
ReplyDeleteHi Erin!
ReplyDeleteGoing to read that blog now...er...I mean I pulled it up now, but just realized I'm late for Preschool pickup, so I'll read it later.
BTW, my most glamorous job is dog-poo pickup. I feel like such a Queen when I am walking around the yard with a shovel of dog poo and a bag. Ahhh my high-end classy life! LOL. Nice to hear other's admitting to it too.
Thanks for the 'shout out' about the contest and series...I just added you to my blogroll!
ReplyDeleteBTW...you have just about the greatest blog name ever! Kim
Yeah, I got stuck with the poo job too! What's up with that?
ReplyDeleteCome on guys, it's "walking the ESTATE", not poo-poo duty, LOL! Dani, you are right about needing help getting kids into the garden - it's become kind of routine with my kids so injecting some different fun is great for them. As for the neighborhood kids, I got the comment a few weeks ago when I asked them to plant peas ...wait for it.... "you mean peas come from the dirt?".... yeah, our nation's kids are a sad state, which is a direct reflection on the parents. Kim, thanks for adding me, love your blog and can't wait to surf all the pictures - it reassures me to know there other garden mom-nerds out there, LOL! As for the blog name, it came naturally since at the time I was still breast feeding, had kids attached at the hip and I just decided I was tired of waiting "to get some free time", and I would just "Garden Now, and Think Later"! :) I think the kids turned out fine in spite of occasionally being nursed amid tomatoes and squash bugs, LOL!
ReplyDeleteSo, is there something wrong with nursing your children amid tomatoes and squash? You say it like there's something wrong with that. That was considered 'normal' around our house when mine were of that age...
ReplyDeleteI need to go on poop patrol- i just keep hoping someone else will do it before I can't stand it anymore but there is little chance of that!
Judy
Judy, nothing wrong with it at all in my book! (coming from someone who BF until my kids were 2!)
ReplyDeleteLove this Erin -- thanks for sharing!!! I find I spend too much time preaching to my kids about getting out and helping in the garden. This sounds like a great way to put the fun back into it -- for all of us!!!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great blog, I won't be entering the contest because I am always kicking the kids out of my garden....and now I am feeling very guilty about that. But they destroy the place. In a matter of minutes. They are allowed to bring worms in and to help with the watering, but absolutely no digging allowed. Is that bad? HELP!
